Art in America: Leon Ferrari at the Drawing Room   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Ferrari's opposition to Argentina's so-called Dirty War, a campaign by the military junta against alleged left-wing subversives that killed some 30,000 people in the late 1970s, led to the artist's exile in Brazil in 1977, where he remained for 14 years.
Just as important, Ferrari was the source of a host of new ideas in the 1960s, as art in Latin America moved away from the influence of European modernism and abstraction.
By 1963, Ferrari revealed that his purpose was not only to revise the parameters of drawing but to mobilize art for political purposes as well.

With the addition of the name "America" to the 340, Enzo Ferrari made clear that the car was mainly intended for the lucrative American market which was mainly dominated by home produced cars with large engines and the more sporting imports like Healey and Mercedes from other overseas markets.
In the history of the 340 America both these cars are of considerable significance because the engines were the first and later they were adapted to the tipo 340 engines.
Of the four participating Americas three are easily identified, 0116A was driven by Louis Chiron and Pierre Louis Dreyfus (known as "Helde"), 0118A was driven by Bill Spear and Johny Claes and 0120 was driven by Edward Hall and G. Navarone.

Between 1965 and 1980, Ferrari, Weslake, Honda, BRM, Maserati, Matra, Alfa-Romeo, Lamborghini and Tecno used 12-cylinder engines in Formula One, either V12 or Flat-12, but the Ford Cosworth V8 had a slightly better power-to-weight ratio and less fuel consumption, thus it was more successful despite being less powerful than the best V12s.
