The Nation, 07/21/1945 - Ferruccio Parri by Salvemini, Gaetano
Parri, like all the best youth of his generation, was an interventionist, that is, he favored Italy's intervention in the European war.
Parri was one of those who wanted Italy to share the sacrifices in that war which was going to obtain justice for all and then to get its share of justice.
...Parri, together with Carlo Rosselli, was planning to effect the escape from Italy of the leader of the Socialist Party, Filippo Turati, a man of seventy, ill, kept in house arrest, and threatened with internment on a penal island...

 ITALIA - ANNO 1946 - 1a

Chapter XXI Interdependence Precludes an Easy Way Out
But Ferruccio Parri, the new Prime Minister, leaned sufficiently to the left to be acceptable to the Communists and Socialists as well as to the more moderate parties represented in his cabinet, and in his first public statement after taking office he acknowledged by clear implication the ascendancy of the CLNAI political forces.
Parri [the Italian Prime Minister] wound up [a conversation with the U.S. Ambassador] by saying that it is essential to change Italy's armistice status, because at every turn he finds his hands tied by the present regime.
This question was subsequently the subject of correspondence with Prime Ministers Bonomi and Parri and Foreign Minister De Gasperi in 1945 and culminated in a renewed and satisfactory pledge by Prime Minister Parri on 24 August 1945....

The purges caused much alarm, as virtually anybody with a job in the public sector had had to be a member of the Fascist party.
In November 1945 Parri was forced to resign and was replaced by the Christian Democratic leader, Alcide De Gasperi, who formed a more “moderate”—and “Roman,” or “southern”—interparty government.
It soon gave up attempts at a purge, returned the large industrial firms to their previous owners, and replaced the “partisan” administrators in the north with ordinary state officials.

In October monarchists and leaders of the Liberal Party accused Prime Minister Parri of violating the truce on the question of the monarchy, and he subsequently resigned.
The ensuing crisis was accompanied by riotous demonstrations in southern Italy at the high cost of living.

Edizioni di Comunità, it should be noted, was one of Italy’s most important publishing houses in the postwar period, the cultural heart of the complex array of social and political activities built up in a few short years by that positive utopian – Ferruccio Parri’s description – Adriano Olivetti.
The Library therefore includes the books in the Quaderni series published by the Adriano Olivetti Foundation, with research by major institutions and articles by distinguished writers like Schlesinger, Spinelli, Lunati, Gottfried, Acquaviva, Berta, Predieri, to mention just a few.
