Ferryhill is in the latitude of 54˚ 42’ north, and longitude 1˚ 35’ west.
Ferryhill was an agricultural settlement with two ponds, which are now disappeared – one in front of the Town Hall, and one in the east end of the town centre.

Ferryhill Town Council covers 870 hectares and includes the areas of Ferryhill Station, Chilton Lane, Dean Bank, Mainsforth, Ferryhill Village and the Broom and this is the history of Ferryhill and Ferryhill Town Council.
The population of the village therefore increased from 3,123 in 1902 to 10,674 by 1921.
Ferryhill was separated from the Parish of Merrington in 1843 and a new parish was formed consisting of the township of Ferryhill and Chilton.

Ferryhill sits on the western edge of the Ferryhill Gap, a natural gateway in the Limestone Escarpment that outcrops on the Eastern Durham Plateau.
In 1683 there was a well known murder in Ferryhill at Brass Farm (now known as High Hill House Farm, which is behind Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College) where Andrew Mills, a servant, killed the three children of his employer John Brass whilst their parents were out visiting friends.

Ferryhill Primary School and Nursery Class was inspected by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) in December 2001 and the resulting report was published in January 2002.
New arrangements in consultation with HMIE require that a follow -through report is completed within two years of the initial report and, in the case of Ferryhill Primary School and Nursery Class, this is the responsibility of the education authority.
Since the inspection report was published in January 2002, the school had maintained its high standards and had further developed their procedures for planning and assessment, which had had a positive impact on pupils' learning.

Hodgkin describes, "The curious cutting and embankment in Ferryhill village, parallel with, and at one place intersecting, the main road, is an incompleted attempt of the turnpike authorities to lessen the hill for the stage-coaches.
The Ferryhill Gap is a narrow piece of low ground between Ferryhill and Cornforth, ignored by both the old Great North Road and the modern A1(M) but occupied by the railway.
North of Ferryhill the Great North Road crossed the River Wear, before crossing it twice more in Durham City, at Sunderland Bridge, which is a long way from Sunderland.

The amount of work carried out by Ferryhill is reflected in the fact that, as late as 1984/5 the depot had an allocation of seven shunters (08680,719,728,791,827,828,855) to carry out shunting work on the Waterloo branch, Craiginches, Clayhills and at Ferryhill.
However Aberdeen Ferryhill MPD was living on borrowed time, and the shed duely closed on Sunday 26 December 1987, class 37 locomotive 37185 leaving number two road of the shed for the main station to vigorous sounding of it's horn, bringing to an end 134 years of locomotive servicing & maintainance.
In 1993 the remaining portion of Aberdeen Ferryhill MPD shed was demolished.

As indicated in the report the whole school community was involved in clearly identifying priorities and in supporting a remarkable range of improvements.

Ferryhill Junction was the point where the Great North of Scotland's branch to Ballater left the Caledonian main line via Craiginches to Dundee and Glasgow.
In both instances they were erected on sections of line where other railway companies also operated, but why a plainer design than their standard of the period (see Grangemouth No3) should be erected is not clear.
Although the Ballater line had closed many years previously, Ferryhill Junction remained in use right up to the commissioning of the new Aberdeen power box in 1981.

The window of unity marks the union between the two former Ferryhill Church of Scotland congregations (Ferryhill North and Ferryhill South) in 1990 and was designed and made for the Kirk Session by Jane Bayliss of Abbey Studio, Fintray, Aberdeenshire.
When the two Ferryhill Parishes were united in 1990 the window was re-installed as the main feature of the apse in the present Ferryhill Parish Church.
The Ferryhill windows came a few years later but may well incorporate some of the designs she produced while working at the Abbey Studio.

In 1979 the Band was adopted by, and took the name of Durham Colliery Mechanics Band, which prospered for a 15 year period with the support of this association, but ended with the demise of the National Coal Board.
In 1994 the Band was fortunate enough to be offered facilities and the support of Ferryhill Town Council, and thus became the Ferryhill Town band.
Ferryhill Town band has enjoyed recent successes at contests and has represented the Northern region in the National Brass Band Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in London in October 2000 and Preston Guidhall in 2001.
