Fertility problems are usually complex and when TC is involved, they can become even more complicated.
While fertility should not be an issue and there is no hard data to support this recommendation, some radiation oncologists may tell you to wait around 1 to 2 years before attempting to conceive, others might tell you to wait 6 months.
Of course, if they DO pay for fertility treatments, then it only makes sense that they pay for sperm banking since that will be much cheaper than trying to recover viable sperm at a later date.

While it is not intended for the treatment of any disease, it may be used as a "soft" approach to optimize fertility in a natural manner, as an option prior to, or instead of, "hard" options such as in vitro fertilization or fertility drugs.
Female fertility issues are often due to hormonal imbalances or stress factors that decrease the rate of egg release.
The first step in dealing with fertility issues should always be a thorough health exam of both partners to determine any obvious physical problems.

Oktay is a pioneering researcher in fertility treatments and performed the first ovarian transplant procedures in the world.
He has also developed special techniques to preserve fertility in cancer patients who would normally lose their fertility due to chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery.
It may increase fertility for a time, but reduce it later, because it's being used constantly, as opposed to the way it's used in fertility treatments, which is usually at high doses for five days.

 FERTILITY
In previous issues [Ref. 1] we speculated on the possibility of AIS individuals being able to ‘father’ children via the extraction of immature spermatic cell material from their intact (or frozen) testicular tissue.
Once the reconstituted egg cell is mature, it is fertilized in the laboratory and then incubated in the womb of a surrogate mother.
Although babies born from the technique would be only ‘half-cloned’ (the maternal cloned genetic material is fertilized by normal sperm as in regular IVF treatments), there is concern that using ‘old’ DNA from cells in the mother’s body could mean that a newborn baby was the genetic age of the mother.

Fertility issues overlooked among breast cancer patients
Recognising that studies of reproductive health after chemotherapy have previously concentrated on the fertility of male and childhood survivors of cancer, the researchers explored the use of reproductive health counselling in 166 premenopausal breast cancer patients participating in a study of stress-reduction methods.
All the women were asked questions regarding their diagnosis and treatment, including whether they had received any counselling for early menopause or early fertility issues.
Analysis revealed that women who recalled discussing early menopause with their doctor were significantly more likely to have early stage breast cancer and to have received hormonal therapy than those who did not.

CNN.com - Careers and babies: Fertility decline underscores dilemma - May 2, 2002
The career-vs.-family quandary is hardly a new one, but it has received renewed scrutiny thanks to a new book -- and a related Time magazine cover story -- suggesting many women may have missed out altogether on the chance to have kids.
Findings from the U.S.-Italian Study -- published Tuesday in Human Reproduction, Europe's leading journal of reproductive medicine -- underscore the dilemma, saying that a woman's fertility starts declining as early as her late 20s, not in her 30s as was previously thought.
The society, which launched a campaign last year to better educate women about the narrowing window, suggests that's because many women in previous generations had finished bearing children by their late 30s, so perhaps the point was moot.

Fertility rates are dropping because of lifestyles, because of what we eat and do; over-population is not the cause.
There is no doubt that some of the advances being made ought to be controlled but any issues that arise from these new technologies ought to be controlled by legislation; there already is legislation in place to prevent human cloning.
The fertility and birth rates are falling because we are massively over-populated, a problem that will find it's own solution if we don't solve it first.

Cancer Issues - Fertility Concerns Impact Breast Cancer Therapy
The study also found that a majority of the women were very concerned about the ability to have a child, as well as the impact that pregnancy might have on disease recurrence.
Nearly three in four women discussed fertility issues with their doctors, and 17 percent went further and asked questions of fertility experts.
"A key challenge in discussing these issues is the lack of comprehensive data on how cancer therapy affects fertility, particularly when considering newer chemotherapy regimens, and whether getting pregnant after therapy affects the risk of disease recurrence," Partridge said.

CAIRO, Egypt -- A day before the end of the UN population conference, another contentious issue emerged: whether migrants have a right to be reunited with their families.
The Vatican and its Catholic allies consider the phrase "fertility regulation" a code word for abortion, and have waged an intense, word-by-word battle over the conference's report.
The issue of reunification, meanwhile, pits poor nations which supply migrants against rich nations concerned about rising immigration from developing countries.

The germinal epithelium of the adult testis is more susceptible to damage than that of the prepubertal testis.[2] The evidence to date (largely from adjuvant studies) suggests that patients older than 35 to 40 years of age are most susceptible to the ovarian effects of chemotherapy.
Based on the evidence thus far, individuals treated with cytotoxic chemotherapy who remain fertile are not at an increased risk of having children with genetic abnormalities.[2] For all patients who wish to be parents and have permanent infertility, adoption should be presented as a choice.
Future research is needed to address whether the offspring produced are at increased risk of genetic or congenital malformation.[23] Medication can sometimes be used to stimulate the remaining nerves around the prostate and seminal vesicles to convert a retrograde ejaculation to an antegrade ejaculation.

The government should fund studies to monitor the long-term health of IVF babies, and health effects of related techniques such as genetic screening that require removal of cells from the tiny days-old embryo.
Congress should ban the transfer of a human embryo to a woman’s uterus for any purpose other than to produce a live-born child; attempts to conceive "by any means other than the union of egg and sperm;" production of human-animal hybrids or the transfer, for any purpose, of a human embryo into an animal’s womb.
