Parker is best known for his role playing frontiersmen Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone (TV series) as well as starting a fad of wearing coonskin hats.

Fess Parker was in town to present a 180 year old rifle he owns to the Alamo museum, similar to one the real life Davy Crickett used, on the battle anniversary eve.
The rifle was given to Parker in 1955 by the National Rifle Association and then Senators Lyndon Johnson and Estes Kefauver, and commemorates the presentation of a similar 1820-era rifle to then Tennessee Congressman David Crockett in July 1834 by a Whig Party delegation urging him to run for President.
The rifle, which Parker used in his portrayal of Crockett in the wildly successful Walt Disney series of five hour long made for TV movies in 1954 and 1955, will be displayed in the Alamo museum, according to Alamo curator David Stewart.

Of those, the one about the Davy Crockett craze is ok, but hearing Fess Parker's memories is interesting, especially to a Disney fan like me. The picture and sound quality is great for something from the 50's, although I did notice that the picture does go to fl and white once per episode.
Parker, with his coonskin cap and homespun drawl and witticism created a nationwide phenomenon in 1954.
In a world of eroded morals filled with dirt and filth everywhere you turn it was more than comforting to hear Fess Parker's fond recollections of his portrayal and the ideals that Walt immortalized through the tales of this legendary character.
