Leading Man A Festschrift for Warren Bennis
Festschrift is a fine German term that celebrates much that is unique and wonderful about a university.
Literally a volume of essays written as a tribute to a scholar and his or her career, it is also the term applied to the celebration of that career.
But a festschrift is a celebration of the influence of a great teacher, who may or may not have become a celebrity in the process.

These festschrifts are important for the wealth of information found within their covers, and are sought-after additions to the libraries of numismatists.
Festschrift is a German word meaning “festival writings.” These are collections of essays written by specialists in the applicable field, and compiled into a single volume to honor a particular scholar on a special occasion in his or her career, or as a memorial to a deceased scholar.
Assembling a set of these festschrifts is a challenging goal for the collector of numismatic literature, but his efforts will be rewarded by countless hours of interesting reading, endless research possibilities, and the satisfaction garnered from acquiring a scarce group of quality reference works.

There is simply not a second festschrift which reminds the intellectual world that he is now in his ninetieth year.
There is, for example, an essay on Popper and social science; one on Popper's understanding of the meaning of history; and three on the open society and some related problems.
I had, in preparing the festschrift, made an attempt to ask Sir Karl to write something in the form of a foreword or introduction.
