Paul Feyerabend (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
Feyerabend was particularly keen to argue that it had not and could not be shown that this interpretation of the theory was a general panacea for the problems of microphysics, or that its defenders could justifiably believe it to be unassailable.
Feyerabend over-extended the contextual theory of meaning to apply not only to theoretical terms but to observation terms too, arguing that there is no special “problem” of theoretical entities, and that the distinction between observation terms and theoretical terms is a purely pragmatic one.
Feyerabend was still attached to “scientific” philosophy, and considered philosophy worthless unless it made a positive and quantifiable contribution to the growth of knowledge (which, of course, meant science).

Feyerabend became famous for his purportedly anarchistic view of science and his rejection of the existence of universal methodological rules.
Feyerabend uses several examples, but 'renormalization' in quantum mechanics provides an example of his intentionally provocative style: "This procedure consists in crossing out the results of certain calculations and replacing them by a description of what is actually observed.
Feyerabend also thought that the possibility of incommensurability, a situation where scientific theories cannot be compared directly because they are based on incompatible assumptions, could also prevent the use of general standards for establishing the quality of scientific theories.

[No title]   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
Feyerabend argued that descriptions of the scientific method do not match how scientific discoveries have actually occurred in history.
Feyerabend objected to any single prescriptive scientific method on the grounds that any such method would limit the activities of scientists, and hence restrict scientific progress.
He supported this position with detailed and meticulous examinations of the history of science, showing repeatedly how new theories came to be accepted not because of their accord with scientific method, but because their supporters made use of any trick- rational, rhetorical or ribald, in order to advance their cause.

CD: PAUL FEYERABEND - STORIES FROM PAOLINO'S TAPES
Feyerabend explains a lullaby sung by Paul Robeson, describes the life of this American football star and also a bit of the story of Joe Lewis and Max Schmeling.
Feyerabend's views on a bad translation of Brecht/Weill's Dreigroschenoper, his comments on certain nuances of Verdi's Falstaff, his own translation of Xenophanes, his view on Fritz Lang's film Fury, etc. do more than just bridge the spatial distance between him and his life partner.
What Feyerabend illustrates with these 'anecdotes' is that freedom at large depends on individual acts of courage and decency, unimpressed by and at times acting against mainstream ideologies.

Amazon.com: Against Method: Books: Paul Feyerabend   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
Feyerabend was probably the first philosopher of science who really stated that science as it is practised by scientists themselves is NOT an enterprise which can be strictly constructed or even fully described in any conventional methodical way such as the philosophies of positivism and even rationality or idealism for that matter propose.
Feyerabend's book is very entertaining given the radical and playfull nature of the man himself (see `Killing Time', his autobiography), nonetheless it is very well researched and his argument is solid.
Feyerabend stresses that the phrase "anything goes" is far more relavent to the progress of human knowledge and science.

Paul Feyerabend initially {20} won a considerable reputation as an historian of science prepared to get down to precise scientific detail.
He was a realist in the Popperian sense, and argued that science progressed through proliferating theories, rather than coalescing into a prevailing Kuhnian paradigm.
Feyerabend has been scathing of the philosophy of science, remarking that "almost every journal in the philosophy of science deals with problems that are of no interest to anyone except a small gang of autistic individuals."
