	Mirafiori Archive : Cars/Parts for Sale - 1976 128 Wagon for sale
		The X1/9 was supposed to be the 128 Spider but they decided for some reason at the last moment to relase it under their in-house pre-release code (supposedly they thought the name would effect other car sales or some other mysterious mumbo).
		I know of course the X1/9 is the 128 Spider and the X1/4 is the 127 and I recently heard that the X1/79 is the Cinquecento (500).
		In the last five years in arizona I have seen only one 128 (and what a sweet little rally but alas I bought the scorpion instead as I didnt know the owner was looking to sell).

	The Fiat Bertone X1/9 Story
		I think the story about how the Fiat X1/9 became the car it is, is maybe one of the most fascinating stories in the car history.
		The X1/- series of codes were the internal project codes for new cars and, in the case of the X1/9, this internal project code became the car's name because this "128 Spider" did not have front-wheel drive as the rest of the 128 line up.
		Together with Volvo the little Fiat was the only one to make it through the new test like frontal crash from 70 km/h and roll over from 170 km/h without much less room in the cabin.

	What the..?
		The 128 SL replaced the Fiat 850 Coupe in Fiat's lineup, while the mid-engined X1/9 replaced the 850 Spider and the basic 128 replaced the 850 sedan.
		This was the second Fiat to use the 520 name - there had been a V12-powered 520 known as the "Super Fiat" until early 1926, but only a handful were made and was not considered a success.
		By 1975 the 128 was six years old and the new VW Golf, with it's better build and more practical body, was taking a huge chunk of the 128's market.

		Fiat's mid-engined, Bertone-bodied X1/9 (arguably the inspiration for Pontiac's Fiero) and the limited-production 124 Spider were given back to their respective coachbuilders to produce and market.
		Fiat's engineers didn't stop there: The pistons were upgraded, the intake manifold was redesigned and both the oiling and cooling systems were revised.
		Fiat commonly spun a two-seater off its basic sedans, so two years later, when 124 coupe and roadsters arrived, few were surprised.

		Five of the Fiat 900E vans were used by the electric utility in Odense (Denmark) as well as in Italy.
