The Junior Woodchucks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Disney's fictional Scrooge McDuck universe, The Junior Woodchucks are the Boy Scout-like youth organization to which Donald Duck's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, belong.
The nephews always carry with them a copy of the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook, a fictional guidebook which is full of detailed and pertinent information about whatever country or situation in which Donald and the boys find themselves.
Within Disney, a Junior Woodchucks-like organization called the Junior Chipmunks was mentioned in The Emperor's New Groove by Kronk, who recalls in the film that he was a Junior Chipmunk in his youth and later is shown as a leader when we see a troop of Chipmunks at the end of the movie.

 literature
There is "prose poetry," which attempts to convey the aesthetic richness typical of poetry using only prose; and there is "free verse," which is poetry not adhering to any of the strictures of one or another formal poetic style.
Narrative fiction generally favours prose for the writing of novels, short stories, and the like.
This has become less so in the case of science over the last two centuries, as advances and specialization have made new scientific research inaccessible to most audiences; science is appears mostly in journals.

When the kids experience not one, but two misfortunes (they find themselves in the middle of a siege and their guidebook is stolen), they take matters into their own hands in order to save the castle and to retrieve the guidebook from one of their attackers so they can get back home.
As well, the books can be read in a variety of ways--readers can choose to read only the fictional part from start to finish; they can read just the guidebook; or, they can read the story and then the accompanying information in the guidebook on each page as they go along.
Bailey presents both the story and the non-fictional guidebook in a familiar style that employs kids' language and a large dose of humour.

Uldale on the Internet - About Uldale - Hugh Walpole's Herries Chronicle
This is especially so of that which resulted from the burgeoning guidebook industry up to and around the turn of the century.
Collectively known as the Herries Chronicle, they charted the fortunes of a fictional Lake District family over many successive generations, and in their day were received with the highest critical acclaim.
In these novels Walpole had successfully captured all that was beautiful and important about this landscape, and had subtly combined fiction with reality such that the characters still seem as real as the places which his readers can to this day seek out for themselves.

Literature - Fiction Fiction is storytelling of imagined events and stands in contrast to non-fiction, which makes factual claims about reality.
A large part of the appeal of fiction is its ability to evoke the entire spectrum of human emotions: to distract our minds, to give us hope in times of despair, to make us laugh, or to let us experience empathy without attachment.
Fictional works—novels, pictures, stories, fairy tales, fables, films, comics, interactive fiction—may be partly based on factual occurrences but always contain some imaginary content.

Appropriating lines from a guidebook to Rome, Baldessari writes a series of Italian phrases and their English translations in chalk on a slate.
While an Italian song -- a cliched, emotive ballad -- plays in the background, he manipulates a small plastic mannequin in imitation of the gestures in the guidebook.
The phrases take on an oblique, cryptic life of their own: "What does it mean?" "What is it?" and "What are you looking for?" seem to be addressed to the viewer as spectator and interpreter, as well as an enigmatic dialogue between fictional characters in a narrative about art.

REVIEWS IN BRIEF / Alva & Irva
Playwright and novelist Edward Carey crosses genres in more ways than one in his new novel, "Alva & Irva: The Twins Who Saved a City." This unusual work is the autobiography of Alva (one of the titular twins), embedded in a guidebook to Entralla, the fictional city that is the twins' home and obsession.
Entralla seems vaguely modern and Eastern European, but its otherworldliness makes the guidebook portion of the novel seem contrived, as it neatly fits together the characters' lives like pieces in a puzzle.
Carey's cleverness makes "Alva & Irva" an interesting read, but in the end his novel, like the twins' model of Entralla, is as much intriguing curiosity as work of art.
