Every musical work is a product of its time and place, although some works transcend their original settings and continue to appeal to humans through their timeless and universal attraction.
Music that students study and perform often becomes an integral part of their personal musical repertoire.
Because music is an integral part of human history, the ability to listen with understanding is essential if students are to gain a broad cultural and historical perspective.

Although Meyer's tone on this particular CD may come near to matching Harold Wright's, his interpretation of the Saint-Saens is replete with musical fallacies, the most obvious of which is the inappropriately brisk tempo.
Maria Yudina (1899-1970, one of the greatest pianists of her generation, dared to become a "legend in her own lifetime".

 Homemade Music
Things totally extraneous to the music; to the musicians; things beyond anyone's control which are always there, which could be the bells chiming just now, or it could be…something personal, which is just in the listener's head.
The reason I think of this in terms of music is that you often have events that go together and sound really good to you for some reason—like if you like the music of Pierre Schaefer, or something like that—but you can't understand…there's no logical reason why his music should make sense.
In a lot of great music, you can't believe how ridiculous some element which someone suddenly brings in is. Like some really childish, or really great thing; really obvious and simple-minded, but so simple-minded that you could never possibly think of it unless you were really lucky.

The group performs largely from memory, allowing an operatic level of freedom and interaction, and its highly imaginative programmes are drawn from myriad baroque sources to create a kaleidoscopic range of moods and colours.
The group's diverse experience on period instruments is complemented by a keen interest in the history and performance practice of the time with programmes often including interesting historical accounts to communicate a real sense of time and place.

Regardless of what you think of her music, what she's doing is brilliant because she has found a way to collide 4 elements - a catchy gimmick, a civic cultural service, shameless self-promotion....and all in the name of taking the music to the people, with the added benefit of cutting out middle-men.
The way they present their music was that 1 guitar would lay down a melody, and then in succession the other members would come in and add more layers to the melody.
I guess it was then I realized that this music is just like any other music - for the people that really like it and listen to it all the time, it gives meaning and form to their lives.

 Fictional Blogs
It's part of the appeal of any fiction, but with blogs I think this is especially true because so many writers treat their blog as a personal journal or diary.
It's great that authors are using blogs to publish their fiction independently, but I think we need to make a distinction between blogs that have fiction in them and fictional blogs.
Another reason someone might write a fictional blog is that they already have an idea for a novel that works better as a serialized work than as a straight narrative.

Starting a band or group to author or to perform musical compositions is simple to do, but filled with many potential problems for the unwary.
The traditional rule for music publishing payments is that it is split half between the music publisher and half to the song writer.
Now, bands tend to write and perform their own music, and the music publishers are not really worth half of the proceeds.

But the truth is any slump in music sales can be attributed to crappy music, just like the movie industry’s slump is based on lots of lame 70s TV show remakes.

Best new finds of the festival were an Australian band called Fruit that absolutely blew me away, and a group of local women called Full Frontal Folk who did a great job with their edgy, often funny, and occasionally risque "X-treme" folk music.
All three girls were great, and the Music Exchange provided a nice little intimate vanue (the only drawback was that I couldn't help drooling over some of their vintage instruments - the cost of going there could end up substantially higher than the $5 cover).
