Violin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is the smallest and highest-tuned member of the violin family of string instruments, which also includes the viola, cello and arguably the double bass (the double bass technically belongs to the similar but distinct viol family).
Violin players practice long hours to attain good "intonation", a skill that results from training the fingers to land in the right places, training the ear to distinguish when a note is or isn't in tune, and cultivating the ability to correct the pitch very rapidly (and automatically) as notes are being played.
Needless to say that the violin immediately became very popular, both among street-musicians and the noble, which is illustrated by the fact that the French king Charles IX ordered Amati to build a whole orchestra in the second half of the 16th century.

Violin players practice long hours partly to train their fingers to land in the right places, and partly to cultivate the ability to correct the pitch very rapidly as it is played.
Indeed, the violin seems to lend itself to virtuosity more than any other instrument (its only plausible rival is the (A stringed instrument that is played by depressing keys that cause hammers to strike tuned strings and produce sounds) piano), and top violinists have amazed their audiences with their wizardry since the 17th century.
Violins make up a large part of an (A musical organization consisting of a group of instrumentalists including string players) orchestra, and are usually divided into two sections, known as the first and second violins.

The violin is played by using the right hand to draw the bow at right angles across one of the strings, near the bridge, causing the string to vibrate.
One very slight difference between fiddle and violin occurs in American (e.g., bluegrass and old-time music) fiddling: the bridge is shaved down so that it is less curved.

IS IT A FIDDLE OR A VIOLIN?
Fiddle is often used as a nickname for violin in orchestral settings (as in first or second fiddles) but fiddling, whether Scottish, Irish, Bluegrass, or Oldtime, is just the style on a regular violin.
Fiddles and/or Violins are both made by the hands of man and played by the hands of man sharing the same thing, a love for music.
The difference between a violin and a fiddle is that a fiddle is held looser and further down the shoulder and the bow is held in the middle rather than at the end.

Primitive bowed instruments of many types exist around the world and some are still widely used, but the modern Violin first appeared in Italy in the early 16th century.
The modern classical violin has a longer neck and fingerboard, and a greater neck angle than the original baroque design, in order to provide more volume.
Many early violins were modified in the early 1800s to match the requirements of the new design, and can be identified by the grafting on of a new neck.

To keep the sound as “acoustic” as possible and simply amplify the sound of your violin, nothing will beat a microphone, which can register the richness of the whole instrument.
The main difference between a solid body fiddle and an acoustic one is, obviously, that you will hear a lot less of the actual instrument while playing.
For violins, - solid body or with a pick-up fitted- acoustic amps (Or keyboard amps as it happens!) are a lot better than electric guitar amps.

The bridge is the most important fitting on the exterior of the violin and on its shape, height, position and angle depends to a great extent the sound of your violin.
The grain of the soundpost as viewed from either end is alligned ACROSS the violin, that is, at right angles to the grain direction of the belly which is along the length of the instrument.
Don't attempt to stand the sound post upright until it is in the centre of the violin where the height is greatest, Once you have it upright gently move it towards the treble side, paying attention to where you want it to finally be, with regard to distance behind the bridge foot.

 FIDDLE-VIOLIN
As a fiddle player I am often asked the difference between a fiddle and a violin.
This is a fiddle with great “character.” For instruments under $1,000 it is quite good, with a sweet but not strong sound.
Oh, and to answer my first question as to the difference between a fiddle and violin, the simple answer is there is no difference, they are the same instrument.

Violin vs. Fiddle: What's the Difference
The only true reason you'd call one instrument a violin and the other a fiddle is the approach...someone who plays fiddle tunes, a fiddler, will address their violin as a fiddle.
There is no difference other than the approach...a violin is a fiddle; a fiddle is a violin.
Ultimately, a violin is a fiddle; a fiddle is a violin...the classification would be more dependent on the style of music being played on the instrument.
