Topic: Field Marshal (Malaysia)

  Field Marshals: Introduction
There was usually only one Marshal of the Field on any battlefield and he usually communicated the commander's orders and troop deployments.
There were, for instance, commissions for Sir Ralph Hopton as "Field Marshal of the Western Army", 10th June 1643 and "Field Marshal General of the West and Sussex, Surrey and Kent" dated 27th October 1643.
A Field Marshal carries a short baton presented by the Sovereign as a symbol of his rank, and this constituted his insignia of rank for a short period in the late 18th century, and again since 1855.

Thailand's leader at the time, the visionary-if-dictatorial field marshal Sarit Thanarat, had chosen this spot to build his country's bridge to the 21st century, in the form of a gleaming international airport.
