This year's festival was dedicated to the memory of Oscar-winning composer Elmer Bernstein, a founding-member of the advisory board and enthusiastic supporter of the Festival whose film scores ran the gamut from The Man with the Golden Arm to Meatballs.
Festival founders Meira Blaustein and Laurent Rejto credit Bernstein's advice and support as an essential part of the Festival's early development.
The Elmer Bernstein Prize for Music in Film, an award unique among film festivals, which was instituted at Bernstein's suggestion and for which he was the selector at past festivals, was set aside this year due to his death in August.

It is a festival of fierce intensity, where acquisitions folks, d-girls, filmmakers, producers, press people, and a few genuine film aficionados power-view films and devour a series of seminars on topics ranging from digital production to film distribution to the "craft series" on writing, directing, acting, producing.
The rest of the festival featured a host of competent and enjoyable films and none of the films compelled me to walk straight out the door after the first twenty minutes, (except for the closing night film).
On Tuesday night, the festival came to a conclusion with the presentation of the audience awards -- all of the brief acceptance speeches were highly amusing.

The Montreal World Film Festival (Festival des Films du Monde) celebrates its 20th anniversary this year (22 August-2 September), but judging by the announcements of its schedule so far, it's going to be a relatively low-key affair.
As an early taste of the official festival, Montreal held outdoor screenings in July of Le facteur (the French language version of Il postino), Camille Claudel and Le grand bleu.
