Beautiful and Ugly Machines: 1981 Chevrolet Camaro
The 1981 Camaro was the last year of the second generation Camaro, a line which began in 1970.
The 1981 Camaro was offered with either a V6 or a V8 and came in three models, the base Sport Coupe, Berlinetta, and top spec Z28.
The gothic styling of the later second generation cars was vulgar to say the least, the early cars were far superior in the design department.

 Inside Line: Pontiac Firebird -
Pontiac built its own engines then (as did Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac and Chevrolet), and only Pontiac engines went into the Firebird — not a one was shared with the Camaro.
While retaining most of its structural hard points, the 1969 Firebird got a restyling similar to the same year Camaro's: It was broader in the fenders with a new front end that separated the headlights from the grille.
While the '93 Firebird line was pared down to three models (base, Formula and Trans Am), there were only two engines offered — a new 160 horsepower 3.4-liter version of the same V6 used in the third-generation car and the amazing 275 horsepower LT1 version of the classic 5.7-liter small-block V8.

In a circle, the Trans Am could generate.83g of grip which matched the test Corvette and was well beyond the.76g the Camaro Z28 capable of.
The Trans Am was in it's ninth year of production, the last eight in the second generation bodystyle.

Developed by Holden, GM's Australian division, the new Zeta platform — or "architecture" in GM-speak — will form the basis of the next-generation Pontiac Grand Prix and GTO; the Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo; and a new version of the Camaro.
Zeta would be a good platform to have because the New Saab 9-5 and Next Commydore could use it.
