Film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Film is considered by many to be an important art form; films entertain, educate, enlighten and inspire audiences.
Stock widths and the film format for images on the reel have had a rich history, though most large commercial films are still shot on (and distributed to theaters) as 35 mm prints.
Film preservation of decaying film stock is a matter of concern to both film historians and archivists, and to companies interested in preserving their existing products in order to make them available to future generations (and thereby increase revenue).

Film soundtrack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Early films were silent, but were released with cue sheets or scores so that individual theater houses could play music, recorded or live, at appropriate places in the film.
This is arguably the most common type of music heard on a film soundtrack, is music composed and placed to enhance the desired emotion of a scene, be it positive or negative.
The theme of a film may eventually come to symbolize a character or the film itself, to the point where the original purpose of the theme may be lost.

Review: Soundtrack, Desparado - Sean Eric McGill   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
When you hear a film soundtrack that works, you are able to easily recall certain moments in the film by hearing music from those moments on the soundtrack.
In the past few years (and even going back to the John Hughes' films of the eighties), movie makers have been so preoccupied with loading up a soundtrack album with whatever stars are hot at the time in an effort to sell the film through the album.
From "Cancion Del Mariachi," which opens the film, to "Let Love Reign" which closes it, the various songs set the tone for the various segments of the film with such style that it's impossible to keep memories of the film out of your head when you hear it.

Soundtrack cues are often named for pieces of dialog that occur near the cue and this title fits much too well to be coincidental.
Some say that Vangelis’ plate was so full that he lacked the time to compile the soundtrack and was unwilling to relinquish contractual control to the studio (giving the studio the ability to complete the soundtrack with the original cues).

The Committee: Pink Floyd - film soundtrack music   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The soundtrack to the film The Committee is arguably the most obscure music with which Pink Floyd is associated.
Though the film is unlikely to be considered a masterpiece, the synopsis provided here should certainly demonstrate that The Committee is a very unusual and original film.
In the final analysis, the quality of the film is irrelevant, for both film and soundtrack, were they to be released, would be bought solely as a result of their association with Pink Floyd.

Working on the soundtrack for The Graduate had one unexpected benefit that would prove to be the key in re-establishing Simon and Garfunkel's hit single touch.
When he learnt that one of his acts had been approached to supply the soundtrack for a film which insiders had already tipped as an off the wall smash, Davis was delighted and sat back expecting it to be an extremely profitable undertaking for his company.
Naturally Davis had assumed that having agreed to write the soundtrack for the film, Simon would come up with a batch of new songs, but Simon and Garfunkel, preoccupied with their follow up to Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, had spent much of 1967 in the studio creating what eventually became Bookends.

It's all part of the vibe of the film and Cohen's vision, says Kathy Nelson, who is music-supervising the film and soundtrack for Universal Records.
