Tabu was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh as Tabassum Hashmi on November 4, 1972.
She has also won three statuettes in the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance category for Virasat (1997), Hu Tu Tu (1999), and Astitva (2000) respectively and in 1995 she was awarded with the Filmfare Best Debut Award
Despite a few exceptions, Tabu is known best for her willingness to play characters in artistic, low-budget films that go on to garner more critical appreciation than they do substantial box office figures (such as in Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities or Maqbool).

 THE 48TH FILMFARE AWARDS
The Swiss Filmfare Award was awarded by the daughter of legendary actor Charlie Chaplin, Geraldyne Chaplin to non other than Shah Rukh Khan, who in a preplanned move takes the mike away from compere Malani Sharma despite her protest, to make a speech.
The Critics Award for Best movie was presented by Ashutosh Gwarikar to Raj Kumar Santoshi for the Legend of Bhagat Singh whilst the Critics Award for Best actress was shared jointly by Rani Mukerjee for Saathiya and Manisha Koirala for Company.
In a surprise move the Critics Award for the Best Actor was shared by Ajay Devgan and Ajay Devgan for the Legend of Bhagat Singh and Company.

On stage to collect an award from the Swiss government, Shah Rukh charmed Geraldine Chaplin (daughter of comedian Charlie Chaplin, who presented him the trophy) and snatched the microphone from compere Malini Sharma (who made her debut in Raaz), even though she insisted there was no time for a speech.
He dimpled deviously on stage,  took a dig at the sponsored awards by telling winner Vivek Oberoi he should add Manikchand as his middle name, and commented that Padmini Kolhapure and Poonam Dhillon were apt choices to give away the Best Villain Award to Ajay Devgan.
shah's performance was excellent in devdas, he has proved it again that he is the best.
