Amazon.com: Books: Developing Digital Short Films
Part Two focuses on the visual pre-production of a short film and the issues that go through a filmmaker's mind as they struggle with how best to present their stories; this includes topics like 101 camera shots, frame composition, developing a visual look and feel, color maps, and creating storyboards and animatics.
This book captures the spirit of the convergence between traditional film and multimedia, and the countless examples and case studies presented throughout the book are a great source of inspiration for students.
I was really impressed with the section on how to design the color palette for your film to create the mood you want.

Shadows on the Wall: SHORT FILM REVIEWS
These shorts were made by the surreal and experimental French filmmaker Pierre Yves Clouin, who also had two odd shorts at last year's festival.
Strange short film that doesn't really make sense but somehow generates a feeling of furtive and dangerous lust, as it features just a few images, filmed surreptitiously, of guys fumbling sexually out of view of the general public.
Half of the short is in split screen, it's completely silent, and features one title in the middle: "in jail now".

Short Film About Killing and Short Film About Love confirm what international audiences learned years ago: Kieslowski was a world-class filmmaker, one of the true masters in telling intimate, human dramas.
Short Film About Killing and Short Film About Love are artful creations that use exquisite lighting (it appears natural), various color filters used to emphasize Warsaw's drabness, and subtle camera movement.
A Short Film about Killing is Kieslowski's most powerful, most emotionally wrenching film, a hard-hitting variation on the trademark humanism seen in his other work.

 Ushpizin Official Movie Site Picturehouse
As Ushpizin’s secular film crew would themselves be considered guests in the world of the ultra-Orthodox, Rand asked the filmmaker to meet with Rabbi Arush and obtain his consent to make the movie.
Winner of the 2004 Best Actor award at the 2004 Israeli Film Academy for writer-star Shuli Rand, director Gidi Dar’s film, Ushpizin (roughly translated to “holy guests”), is a revelatory – and humorous - look at the daily lives of ultra-Orthodox Jews learning, living, and loving in modern-day Israel.
Disarmingly funny, the film also startles in its universality, depicting members of the ultra-Orthodox community in scenes of ordinary living, drinking, smoking, dancing, arguing, reconciling, listening to popular music, and grappling with their faith.
