Final Fantasy was developed during Square's brush with bankruptcy in 1987.
Final Fantasy, along with the original Dragon Quest, proved to be one of the most influential early console role-playing games, and played a major role in legitimizing and popularizing the genre.
It is featured in the ending theme songs of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI as the last three minutes of the 18+ minute piece, part of the ending theme in Final Fantasy VII, and in the very end of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children as the movement immediately preceding the song Calling.

Every character in Final Fantasy 4 has an interesting mix of strengths, weaknesses, and special moves, and they can all be a lot of fun to use.
The original version of Final Fantasy 4 is very hard to come across, but if you can get a hold of either this game or its PlayStation counterpart at a fair price, and if you have a way of being able to understand it, by all means play it.

Fantasy V was never released in North America untill 1999 a la Final Fantasy Anthology.
Final Fantasy V has had a mixture of reviews, although many people, (most people) that have played it can agree, that for the Final Fantasy Standards, this game fell short in such areas as, the story line, and character development.
This is good and bad: the crystals were in the first five Final Fantasies (hey, that's alliteration right there) as well as Mystic Quest so the whole crystals thing was a little cliche and this point, but the crystals were almost legendary in the FF series.

The graphics are functional but pretty good, and the random battles,(which final fantasys are full of), are actually not bad at all on a handheld, where you can play for short chunks.
Of course I didn't expect the variety, graphics, or style of the later final fantasys, but even the basics of plot, depth and exploration here are past their sell by date.
If you took away the Final Fantasy name, and the fact that everyone loves it because it was the first to do many things, this game just isn't worth playing compared to some of the other stuff out there.

Which is why when it was re-released for Final Fantasy Chronicles on the PlayStation, it was called by it’s correct name: FFIV.
This was the first Final Fantasy to use the Active Time Battle system, where enemies can attack you while you’re still entering commands and using items.
It could simply be that it’s been overshadowed by the excellent Final Fantasy VI, or maybe the poorly done translation of the SNES version has something to do with it.

As someone who's introduction into the FF series was with Final Fantasy IV, I got a big kick out of seeing the intro graphics, because it was cool to see how Square envisioned their world and characters.

This release definitely bodes well with fans of the series who were extremely disappointed with the lacked inclusion of IV in Final Fantasy: Anthology, the more limited overseas release of the Final Fantasy Collection in Japan which included IV, V, and VI.
It's not entirely certain if Square will simply dump the existing easy type translated version of Final Fantasy II to the Playstation or tack on additional material seen from Japan's Hard Type Final Fantasy IV.
The Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger PSX release is expected to hit stores later this fall.

When Final Fantasy IV was released as Final Fantasy II on the SNES over a decade ago, it set the standard for RPGs to come on the system.
The background moved, the boss moved, all of the characters were moving, there was just a lot going on in general and it caused the game to lag up.
To beat the final boss, you're going to need to be at least level 50, probably higher.
