Final Fantasy IV (released as II in the U.S.) was one of the Super Nintendo's first true RPGs- it had a magical score, wonderful plot, and deep character development previously unseen in many console RPG's.
The first true Final Fantasy in my opinion, this game is a classic in every respect, a true testament to Square's magnificent abilities.
However, it's still turn-based Final Fantasy gameplay, and that's not bad at all; it was great for its time and can still be appreciated today.

Final Fantasy II was one of Squaresoft's (now Square-Enix) first games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and a follow-up to the popular NES hit, Final Fantasy (which came out in May, 1990).
Final Fantasy II (IV), which was released in 1991, marked the series' arrival onto the SNES.
Final Fantasy II delivers a solid role-playing experience, and although it may be outshined by Final Fantasy III nowadays, and other newer intstallments, I still recommend it.
