RPG LAND Anime Review - Final Fantasy: Unlimited
When one picks up a title with the words "Final Fantasy" expectations arise in their mind: a decent story, flashy and well-thought out design, and a chance to bastardize source for male pairings.

Final Fantasy Unlimited DVD anime (English Dubbed)
Final Fantasy began on the Nintendo Family Computer (also known as the "Famicom," and known internationally as the Nintendo Entertainment System) as Final Fantasy in 1987, and was joined by two sequels, Final Fantasy II (re-released on the PlayStation and Game Boy Advance worldwide) and Final Fantasy III (only released in Japan).

Final Fantasy is also known for "re-inventing" the series with almost every game, as each game takes a different approach in gameplay and story than the last; although this keeps the series from feeling stale with repeated sequels, fans of one game may not like the other games in the series.

 Review - Anime News Network
Final Fantasy: Unlimited is one hell of a practical joke.
That having been said, if the show didn't have the name ‘Final Fantasy’ on it, it probably wouldn't be as hated as it is. Without the pretense of being connected to the game franchise and taken entirely on its own, non-game-related merits, the series is your average fish-out-of-water fantasy series.
Final Fantasy fans will walk away in disgust, shaking their heads at what might have been had Square and Gonzo not jumped the rails and decided that they didn't want to make money.
