For other things, the program makes a good guess, such as enharmonic spelling from a piano keyboard: it is smart enough to spell F-sharp rather than G-flat in a V/V chord in C minor, but some chords, for instance V+, it might understandably use G-flat instead of F-sharp.

Finale has gone through two big bursts of improvement, first in the early-to-mid 1990s, when Nightingale came out, featuring, among other things, note-attached slurs, which Finale did not have at the time; and again from 2001 to the present, when Sibelius came out with a streamlined interface and a variety of showy playback features.

A sequencer program allows you to record music into a computer, track by track as in a recording studio, and is ideal for composers who have a MIDI keyboard connected to a computer, which allows real-time recording of musical parts.

Scorewriter - Psychology Central   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
A scorewriter, or music notation program, is software used to automate the task of writing and engraving sheet music.
They range from programs which can write a simple song, piano piece or guitar tab, to those that can handle the complexities of orchestral music, specialist notations (from early music to avant garde), and high-quality music engraving.
Due to the wide variation in features and notations supported, and because scorewriter programs have only entered into widespread use relatively recently, scores created using one program tend to be incompatible with programs developed by other manufacturers.
