Financier Blum asks to drop his $20 million suit / Truth about pension funds will come out in related case, he says
Grana had enraged Blum last year by filing a lawsuit accusing the financier and union officials of mismanagement and cronyism in their handling of investments for the Carpenters Pension Trust for Southern California, which pays the retiree's pension.
In an interview, she contended that the financier filed the libel action -- with its enormous damage claim -- in an attempt to "scare the daylights" out of the retiree so he would drop the lawsuit he filed against the pension fund.
The dispute between the retiree and the financier has its roots in 1994, when Grana attempted to retire with a heart condition and a bad hip and was declared ineligible for a carpenters union pension.

Making Your Financier Take You Seriously   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
The secret to attracting the support of a bank or financier is down to two main things: a solid business plan and, as is the case with many things in business, human relationships.
Financiers are far more likely to accept business plans when the previous year’s targets have been met.
A financier will look at the measurable qualities of your business but be sure they also get a ‘feel’ for the business as a whole which might just shift the favour in your balance.

Soros said the global economic crisis of the past 17 months shows that the international financial system is broken and needs to be fixed.
He said that while many countries affected by the crisis suffered from misalignment of exchange rates, poor banking systems and inadequate financial regulation and crony capitalism or budget deficits, there was no common link to the spread of the financial contagion.

According to this concept, a financier and his client participate either in the joint ownership of a property or an equipment, or in a joint commercial enterprise.
This arrangement allows the financier to claim rent according to his proportion of ownership in the property and at the same time allows him periodical return of a part of his principal through purchases of the units of his share.
At the same time the client may sign one-sided promise to purchase different units of the share of the financier periodically and the financier may undertake that when the client will purchase a unit of his share, the rent of the remaining units will be reduced accordingly.

The critical distinction, implemented here, is between a traditional loan arrangement where the financier does not become a party to the license and the relationship that exists more in reference to three party leases where the lessor (financier) acquires the property (license) and transfers it to the licensee.
The key fact is that the financier is not bound by the obligations of the license, but is bound by the limitations of the license.
Since the financier is not a party to the license, it cannot cancel that contract.

Twentieth Century Literature: Dreiser's 'The Financier' and the Horatio Alger myth
Robert Penn Warren, for example, once characterized the plot of The Financier as, among other things, an attempt to modernize "the Horatio Alger myth" (56).(1) The temptation to read Dreiser's chronicle of the rise, fall, and resurrection of a nineteenth-century street railway tycoon(2) as an updated version of Alger's narrative strategies is certainly understandable.
In particular, I will question the hypothesis that The Financier is a modernized version of Alger's fiction by analyzing the ways in which Dreiser departs from the narrative framework popularized by Alger and by suggesting that to exaggerate Dreiser's indebtedness to Alger is to overlook one of the most inventive aspects of The Financier.
Although Dick Hunter, the principal character in Alger's Ragged Dick (1867),(5) is a thoroughly urban figure (a bootfl in lower Manhattan), his circumstances at the beginning of the novel resemble those of Huckleberry Finn in the concluding chapters of Mark Twain's Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876).
