Finchley Central tube station is a London Underground station in the Finchley Central area of north London.
Finchley Central station was built by the Edgware, Highgate and London Railway (EHandLR) and was originally opened as Finchley and Hendon on 22 August 1867 by the Great Northern Railway (GNR) (which had taken over the EHandLR) in what was then rural Middlesex.
Finchley Central was the home station of Harry Beck, designer of the original Tube map, and features a commemorative plaque on the southbound platform together with a facsimile poster of Beck's design.

There is nowhere else in finchley central worth going to apart from the Dignity.
finchley is mainly made up of middle/upper income singles/families, has nice green areas, very safe, and all the shopping and transport facilities you need - even the buses into central london are realistic options.

Route 260 was introduced on 3 January 1962 running daily between Barnet and Harlsden via Whetstone, North Finchley, Finchley Central, Golders Green, Cricklewood, and Willesden, with a Saturday and Monday to Friday rush hours extention to Hammersmith via North Acton and Acton, as a replacement for trolleybus route 660.
In 1968 it was extended daily from Leyton to Walthamstow Central Station, and further extended on Mondays to Saturdays to Chingford Station via Crooked Billet, Chingford Mount and Oldchurch Road.
In 1988 it was withdrawn between Stratford and Walthamstoiw Central and replaced by new route 257.

Not the most exciting road but it does encompass the route that top 60s songwriter and producer Geoff Stevens might have taken in his song “Finchley Central” journeying there from Golders Green, instead of his route on the Northern Line changing at Camden Town.
The A598 starts at Childs Hill as the straight-ahead option for northbound traffic on Finchley Road, while the A41 turns left into Hendon Way, and in fact originally the A598 and the southern part of the A41 were a single A-road the A500 (or so I’m led to believe).
It is notable that once the Finchley Road becomes the A598 it narrows a lot and is only one lane each way for the most part.
