Finger Elevens prior release, which was self-titled, has scanned 560,688 according to SoundScan, and has been certified gold by the R.I.A.A. The success of the release was largely fueled by the massive hit One Thing, which continues to be heard on radio stations across the country as a recurrent on their play lists.
Many of the sounds on the record were recorded during the demo process in locations as diverse as a castle, a lodge in Northern Canada and their homes.

Their first two albums barely could crack the charts and it took almost 6 years for them to finally breakthrough with the single "One Thing." Over the past 8 months, this CD has steadily become a favorite of mine.
Finger Eleven does not show any signs that they will cease producing albums and I feel that this new road they are on will lead them to the success that they are after.

Finger Eleven are one of those great bands who have made a career out of sounding nothing like anyone else and avoiding trends.
Finger Eleven have come a long way from this album, and admittedly have made better music (although a lot of fans will strongly disagree with me), but "Tip" still stands as a stellar debut effort.
I listened to this album after listening to their sophmore album 'Greyest of Blue Skies' and can say this CD was definitely 1 star better but not 5/5.

It's that one extra finger that you use to point you in the right direction.
These extremes are the reason why the album has to be listened to from top to bottom - there isn't ONE song that sums up Finger Eleven on this record.
By the time the album is over you're in a totally different than when you started, but the journey never feels bumpy or forced, it just evolves.

In April Finger Eleven shot the video for the live portion of a DVD included with their latest album (titled Finger Eleven) in Buffalo's Showplace Theatre.
This past week Finger Eleven was the opening act (with Default) at the free Thursday at the Square concert downtown.
While louder than Finger Eleven they seemed less concerned with the quality of their sound and pretty much concentrated on whipping the crowd into a frenzy, which wasn't too difficult with all the beer that was in them.

Then in 1997 they changed their name to finger eleven, for reasons I'm not entirely sure of, something to do with the fact that they thought no one would take them seriously with their previous name, and started writing music that would become their second album, tip.
The album was recorded and produced by Arnold Lanni (Our Lady Peace, King's X), tip is murky and moody one minute, then frenetically pounding the next.

If listening to the radio today is like being stuck on a long flight breathing the same recirculated air for eight hours then Finger Eleven is that first breath you take outside the terminal.
Though I have some issues with the new album [specifically the production work of Johnny K, not the actual music], the band's songs continue to amaze me in their originality and freshness.
