Fingon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tolkien, Fingon, "the Valiant" was a High King of the Ñoldor in Beleriand during the First Age.
Fingon went with his father and people from Aman to Middle-earth at the beginning of the First Age.
In the published Silmarillion Fingon was the father of Gil-galad, but this was an editorial mistake by Christopher Tolkien, and is said "to have no wife or children".

Fingon stopped when his body was close enough to his cousin to feel the heat of the Elf's skin.
Fingon pulled back, a smile on his lips as he took in the sight of Maedhros tense and trembling, panting his name and begging for something he could not understand.
Fingon watched in rapt fascination as Maedhros reached his peak; his lover's eyes fluttered and he threw his head back, a rough cry of completion and love echoing through the room as his hand was coated with his cousin's seed.

Nirnaeth Arnoediad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The plan was for Maedhros's host to attack and draw out the army of Angband, after which Fingon's host would attack from the Ered Wethrin, taking the offensive in the west.
Under Fingon in the west were gathered the Elves and Men of Hithlum, the Elves of the Falas, the Haladin of Brethil and the companies sent from Nargothrond and the two elves of Doriath, Beleg and Mablung.
The Armies of Fingon were separated from the others and he was left alone with his Guard to fight Gothmog.

Fingon was able to understand the rules, and he could see a pattern behind Maedhros's moves, but Fingon could not yet develop a strategy or counterstrategy of his own.
Until then, though, Fingon was alone, and the presence of the seven sons of Feanor and the five children of Finwe and Indis undoubtedly served as a reminder of that loneliness.
Fingon was undeterred by his losses in Silver or Golden Light and continued to play and learn the patterns of the game.

Ereinion nods only in reply to Fingon's words, the fact that he forms no other reply an indication that his thoughts are focused now on what lies before, and for the moment at least his emotion on the subject is mastered.
The Prince's jaw is set in a youthful reflection of Fingon's own as the Aran speaks, and though it remains thus even as the peril of his people is named, his gaze is cast downward upon mention of the dangers besetting his own family.
Fingon then turns to Cirdan and presents it to him with these words, "Cirdan, Lord of the Falathrim, into your hands I give the guardianship of my son Ereinion, heir to the Kingdoms of the Noldor here in Beleriand.

Fingon suddenly thought of his recurring dream, and then made himself remember that the elf who would meet him there was not the same as in the dream.
Fingon meanwhile had been trying to figure out if Maedhros had hated him for what he had done and had just been searching for right words too, words to tell Fingon of his hate.
Fingon was glad not to think about it any more… only sometimes the dream came to him, the dream where Maedhros was touching him with his two hands; and lately it started to come more and more often.

Fingon was deeply grieved on beholding the evil device of Morgoth and he wept.
By this act of valour, Fingon won great praise, and Maedhros begged Fingolfin for forgiveness; and as a result of Fingon's heroics, the hatred between the two houses was, for the time being, assuaged.

I believe the people of Fingon were said to be the hardiest and most valiant of all the Ñoldor, and so they also seem to be at the battlefield.
Although not clear as to how much Fingon personally was suprised, as opposed to his host, that would suggest that only one way communication was involved, with no reply by Turgon, likely in the form of messages carried to Turgon by the eagles.

The clan Fingon or the Mackinnons, a clan belonging to the Siol Alpine, are said to have sprung from Fingon, brother of Anrias or Andrew, an ancestor of the Macgregors.
This Fingon or Finguin is mentioned in the MS of 1450 as the founder of the clan Finguin, that is, Mackinnons.
But universal tradition attributes the name and the origin of the clan to Fingon, grandson of Gregor, son of Alpin, King of Scots, beheaded by the Picts on Dundee Law in the year 834.

Saying that Gil-galad as the son of Fingon was "an ephemeral idea" lit the fires of controversy almost overnight.

I don't know if it is because of Fingon (and the rest of the Elves who were left behind) that stopped Maedhros from joining in, though.
The reason for Maedhros's and Fingon's apparent un-friendship was probably due to the influence of their fathers, and not really caused by themselves.
So maybe it wasn't solely because of their friendship that he went in search of him, but he was still shaken to see his friend (or ex-friend) in such a state.
