Upon his release he resumed his activities and was elected as a Sinn Féin MP for Kerry South in the 1918 Westminster Election.

It will also ask why the Medical Missionaries of Mary, who ran the hospital for most of his time there, failed to question his practice or that of his colleagues some of whose rate of caesarean hysterectomy was also high.
It will highlight the significant number of caesarean hysterectomies carried out by Dr Finian Lynch, another obstetrician in the hospital, until 1998 when Dr Neary was finally suspended.
The maternity unit in the hospital carried out 188 caesarean hysterectomies - regarded as a procedure of last resort - between 1974-1998, 129 of which were performed by Dr Neary.

 Finian's Rainbow, a CurtainUp review
Finian's Rainbow has been considered a classic musical since bursting onto Broadway in 1947 with what remains one of the best theater scores of the entire century.
While the story of a Celtic codger (Finian) and his winsome grown daughter Sharon as new arrivals in the fictional American southern state of "Missitucky" was on one level a very welcome escapist tonic, the material also had something pretty revolutionary to say.
Its unequivocal message condemning racial prejudice was comfortably couched inside a tale involving a pot of gold, a lovesick leprechaun who is gradually turning into a mortal, and a bigoted politician who is transformed into a fl person owing to an accidentally applied magic wish.

 RTÉ Television - Scannal
Staff who had worked in other hospitals started asking questions about the practice of Neary and some of his fellow obstetricians and their particularly high rate of caesarian hysterectomies.
(Worryingly another obstetrician Finian Lynch performed thirty nine of these operations within a fifteen year period).
It took the courage of two midwives- at great risk to their own careers- to bring the matter to the management of the hospital: this time the complaints didn't fall on deaf ears.

Malpractice claimants clash with State agency: ThePost.ie
The claims are understood to involve Dr Finian Lynch and Dr Michael Neary.
Dr Neary was struck off the medical register by the Medical Council in 2003 after he was found guilty of professional misconduct for needlessly removing the wombs of ten patients.
The women's cases are against Lynch, Neary, the NEHB and a nominee of the Drogheda hospital.

 Senator Mary Henry - Articles
If the law of the land allows a procedure and it is best medical practice it should be offered to patients and those who object to such practices should refer them with care to other practitioners and not abandon them with little or no information.
Michael Neary and his colleague Dr. Finian Lynch did apparently try to get guidance from both the Department of Health and the Medical Defence Union as to what they should do about the ban on tubal ligation in the Lourdes Hospital.
But the fact that "compassionate hysterectomies" were carried out in Ireland instead of tubal ligations must have lead to the feeling hysterectomy wasn't such a big deal, indeed was a blessing for many women.

 MELISSA ERRICO OFFICIAL WEBSITE
Sharon has left Ireland with her father, Finian, to settle in the mythical Southern state of Missitucky.
Finian has stolen a leprechaun's pot of gold, and the angry sprite, named Og, has followed the thief to America, where they encounter romance, but also bigotry, economic disparity and social injustice.
The score is spiked with such popular show tunes as "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?" and "Look to the Rainbow," plus spicy comic and satiric songs such as "When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love," "The Begat," "Necessity" and "When the Idle Poor Become the Idle Rich." (see reviews in PRESS)

The second consultant obstetrician, Dr Finian Lynch, a colleague of Dr Michael Neary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, is also under review for apparently performing a high rate of Caesarean hysterectomies.
The investigation into the work of Dr Neary also revealed that Dr Lynch was performing the procedure at a rate higher than the recognised average, although not as many as Dr Neary.

It is believed it was impossible to find another Irish doctor to speak out against him and it was only after an inquiry by a Manchester consultant found he was putting women at risk that he was suspended.
Judge Harding Clark's report revealed Neary's colleague Dr Finian Lynch was also investigated for carrying out a significant number of hysterectomies - 40 over 16 years.
Shockingly the report reveals that a woman died in childbirth at the Lourdes Hospital but staff would not discuss it.
