		Finney County is the second largest county in land area in Kansas; consisting of 1,296 square miles and over 1,200 miles of maintained roadway, it offers an interesting history and a variety of attractions and activities.
		Finney County measures 48 miles east to west across the top, 24 miles across the bottom, is 36 miles north to south at the widest point and 18 miles in the panhandle.
		Finney County is located in southwest Kansas approximately 200 miles west of Wichita and 300 miles southeast of Denver, Colorado.

		In northern and northwestern Finney County and in the northern and the extreme southern parts of Gray County, wheat raising by dry-farming methods is the dominant enterprise.

		Finney county was created by an act of Legislature in 1883, and was named in honor of Lieutenant Governor Finney of Woodson county.
		In 1893 it was annexed to Finney county.
		Thus, Finney county as it has stood since that time is twenty-four miles from east to west and thirty-six miles from north to south, and with the addition of Garfield township, which is eighteen by twenty- four miles, has an area of 1,296 square miles.
