The goal of Finland's defence is to guarantee the country's independence, secure the livelihood of its citizens, prevent Finnish territory from being seized and secure the functioning of the state leadership.
Credible national defence is the best way to guarantee that Finnish territory will not become the object of military speculation, or that a war will not result from the threat of military force in even minor crises.
The Chief of Defence leads the Defence Forces, which are responsible for securing the territorial integrity of the country, and the defence of the nation and its military preparedness in general.

The Defence Forces have a good economy today, but because of the "production program" of the finance minister's department new solutions must be found in the future.
The shrinking of the resources might force the FDF to shrink it's mobilized force to 250 000 soldiers during the next decade, this is a guess from the FDF commander, admiral Juhani Kaskeala.
The current planned strength of the FDF is 350 000 soldiers, during the 1990s it was still 500 000.

The Finnish Air Force was founded on 6 March 1918, and its first aircraft was donated by a Swedish count, Erik von Rosen, and bore his own personal insignia, blue swastikas, painted on its wings.
Anti-aircraft artillery was first considered by the Finnish Defence Forces in 1921, when an artillery committee considering anti-aircraft defence decided that 21 batteries were needed to protect the front-line troops at the center of the defence.
The basis for an integrated air defence system had been created and the principles for its organization had been brought up to the date, but for practical reasons, considering the time needed for equipping, training and fine tuning a technologically complex branch of arms, these actions had come too late.

The company received its first order for AMOS in June 1999, when the initial contract was signed by the Finnish Defence Forces for the self-propelled to be delivered in autumn 2000 and tested during the winter.
