Fiona Hyslop, one of John Swinney’s most senior aides within the party, and the SNP’s chief of policy, also found that a hacker had used her name to send junk e-mail offering internet users cheap loans.
Hyslop only became aware of the problem when some e-mails which had been sent in her name were forwarded to her own e-mail account.
Hyslop’s account is believed to have been attacked using a technique known as ‘spoofing’ - whereby a hacker duplicates an e-mail address and then sends material which seems to come from that account.
