		Fiorenza Cassotto, one of the most underrated singers, is wonderfully mellifluous with her rich dark hued mezzo soprano voice (she also sings without a score).
		These singers are captured in their glorious prime and at this time their careers were taking on a meteoric rise to fame in the opera scene of the late 60´s and would continue well into the 70´s.
		Cossotto did not possess a dark enough lower voice and many times she resembles a wannabe soprano.

		She and her husband, the bass Ivo Vinco, were a legendary couple who had sung Norma with Callas, and although there were rumors that the great soprano and mezzo did not get along, Vinco later insisted that Franco Zeffirelli made up stories.
		Cossotto was often considered to be La Scala's Queen Mezzo and in her day was the reigning Dalila, Amneris, and Princess Eboli, beloved by maestros like Georges Prêtre, Riccardo Muti, James Levine, and Herbert von Karajan.
		Her attack on the high B in "Lache!" near the end of Samson and Dalila's second act is still unforgotten by her fans lucky enough to have heard it live.

		Cossotto, in my opinion one of the most underrated female singers of the late 20th century, singing with overt emotionality, warm tone, yet controlled tone and very secure high notes.
		Cossotto, Cappuccilli, and Vinco are all in excellent voice, but I can not so easily say the same about the great Pavarotti.

		Compared to her Trovatore on RCA only 11 years before, Leontyne Price seems self-consciously grand, her plush voice sailing through the opera like visiting royalty and actually growing labored under the strain of sustaining such an imperial manner.
		Fiorenza Cossotto's slightly shrill, somewhat scary mezzo is at home in playing the witch Azucena even if more vocal weight would be ideal.
		Even the rowdy military scenes seem to matter here, and having the iron-lunged Fiorenza Cossotto as Preziosilla is a plus.
