		Fire and Ice is a refined, majestic piece of work, and I recommend it.
		But Fire and Ice is a consistent album throughout with some very well written music and some very good guitar work from Yngwie in it.
		This album was a sad day for heavy metal and neoclassical guitar, unlike all the malmsteen albums before and most of the ones after, which are five star neo classical extraviganzas.

		Fire and ice imagery comes up again a few years later in the song "The Unforgettable Fire." The first word of the song is "ice": a direct contrast to the "fire" in the title.

		"Fire and Ice" is Malmsteen's second album after having ditched the whole Rising Force band concept, and continues to mine the same musical vein started on the "Eclipse" album.
		This bad rep is sad, really, because this a strong, solid album; Malmsteen doesn't rein in his bombastic soloing style, from which he might benefit, rather he actually attempts to also give a little more melodic structure to the actual songs, instead of just making them vehicles for his sometimes tiring guitar histrionics.

		It might be the best orchestral pop album of the past year, only it doesn't sound orchestral, at least not according to the outsize string-and-reverb model favored by bands like Oasis or Spiritualized.
		The album relied on standout riffs and jags of cathexis; it was, in essence, a collection of rifftastic one-liners, and one-liners sometimes fall face first.
		The album opens with a disquieting epigram: "When there's nothing left to burn, you must set yourself on fire." A procession of lugubrious strings gives "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" the hugely premonitory feel of Heart opener "What the Snowman Learned About Love" without its flimsy grandiloquence.

		In common with the other Neighborhood tracks, its poignant lyrics describe a neighbourhood scene from a child's point of view: "Ice has covered up my parents' eyes / Don't know how to see, don't know how to cry." They should listen to this record and let the floodgates be breached.
