Firefox (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Firefox is a 1982 Warner Brothers film with Clint Eastwood as director, producer and star.
The film details an American plot to steal a highly advanced Soviet fighter aircraft (MiG-31 Firefox) which is capable of Mach 6, is invisible to radar, and carries weapons controlled by thought.
At the time the film was made, President Ronald Reagan had referred to the Soviet Union as the "evil empire" and the Cold War was at a new peak.

Special effects bonanza films pose two perils Eastwood presumably wishes to avoid: not only can the effects rival or eclipse the traditional elements of the story, but also the director is at the mercy of the effects companies.
Furthermore, the climactic fighter duel that ends the film lacks the punch of the desperate survival fight that it should be, and as it is in Craig Thomas' original novel.

Set in the halcyon days of the early 80s cold war, Firefox tells the tale of an intrepid Vietnam vet who is enlisted to steal the Soviet Union’s newest military toy: a mega-swanky high-end fighter jet that also has the ability to turn itself invisible!
Based on the novel by Craig Thomas (and adapted by Alex Lasker and William Wellman), Firefox is a simple case of three or four extremely worthwhile sequences mired amidst an overbaked and rambling narrative.
The fact that the film’s politics are woefully outmoded doesn’t necessarily prevent one from enjoying it (it’s not the film’s fault that time marches on); it’s that the flick as a whole is fairly dry and arid and fairly uneventful.
