Firing pin safety device for hand firearms - Patent 4090316
A hand firearm has a firing pin which is pivotable between safety and firing positions and a hammer which has a striking surface engaging the firing pin when the firing pin is in its firing position and a recess which receives the firing pin when in its safety position.
As a result, it was not possible to reliably avoid firing of the weapon since the firing pin was in the lifted position and upon being subjected to forces of impact the firing pin contacted the cap of the cartridge.
The block has positioned therein a firing pin 3 which is pivotable in a longitudinal plane about a pivot point as defined by the end of the firing pin which engages the cap of the cartridge as shown in the drawing.

Advantage of titanium firing pin? - 1911Forum
Springfield uses an XXH firing pin spring in conjunction with the titanium firing pin.
If memory serves me correctly the ideal behind using the titanium firing pin in the Springfield was to prevent inertia firing the same reason Colt and Para uses the firing pin block (or the series 80 system as some call it).
My testing and experience indicates that a lightweight firing train is a good thing up until the part that has to keep moving under its own inertia and against a spring, in other words, the firing pin.

D&L Sports Locking 1911 Firing Pin Stop
The FPS holds the firing pin and extractor in place to perform their critically important firing functions.
The FPS is generally held in place by the firing pin head and spring pressure, as well as FPS fit to the slide.
This creates a situation where the firing pin head can not return to its proper position, and it allows the FPS to catch on the back of the cocked hammer when the slide is attempting to return forward.
