During 1934, the Tatra Works again surprised the automotive world: a fully streamlined sedan was produced, with a V-8 air-cooled, overhead-camshaft engine powering the monobuilt body, the first car whose body's final form was determined in the wind-tunnel of a near-by airplane factory.
The Tatra automobile, in the meantime, has grown up, after having passed the stages of poverty (technically) and of luxury (high price) to become an economic necessity.
The factory at Kopřivnice was privately owned and operated, and the automobile was just emerging from infancy.

In 1925 Dort's death left the entire city in mourning.(2) The Dort home on Kearsley St. was the first home of the Flint Institute of Music and is the site of the current building.
He was also the founder of the Imperial Wheel Co., the Flint Varnish Works, The Flint Axle Works and many other companies.
That summer, both Dort and Durant founded the Flint Road Cart Co., but later changed the name to Durant-Dort Carriage Co. which was the largest builder of passenger vehicles in the world.(1) In 1914 he began the liquidation of the carriage company and in 1915 founded the Dort Motor Co.which was dissolved in 1923.

The first production four-wheel-drive automobile, built by FWD Corporation, rolled out of Clintonville, Wisc. It was first used as a demonstrator, and when the firm shifted entirely to truck manufacturing, it was used for nearly 35 years to haul mail to and from the post office.
