First Canadian Place is Canada's tallest skyscraper and the eleventh tallest building in North America with a height of 298 metres, or 978 feet (355 metres with antenna included).
First Canadian Place is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of King and Bay streets in Toronto, Ontario, the centre of Canadian financial industry.
Before First Canadian Place was built the headquarters of the Toronto Star had stood on its location.

Prior to the first elevator being removed from service, design, fabrication and installation of a unique backup drive system was completed for the operational elevator, the car that was to remain in-service while the first elevator's cylinders were replaced.
With consideration given to the various elevator components, it was concluded that the greatest threat to equipment reliability was the integrity of the existing eight in-ground cylinders, including the combination of unknown underground conditions coupled with the absence of cylinder protection devices.
The first solution challenged the space limitations of the elevator pit relative to the drilling equipment that would be provided by the subcontractor.

Spreading its image as BMO is expected to decrease the perception that it is a "Montreal" bank and get better recognition from American investors.
