Broken Bow (ENT episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The episode caused quite some controversy at the time, especially as it featured the Klingons, far before many fans expected them to appear.
A Klingon, the first that Earth has ever encountered, lands near Broken Bow, Oklahoma on Earth on the North American continent, pursued by something unknown (Berman et al., 2001).
This Enterprise, dubbed NX-01, is the first of an experimental project to create a spaceship capable of traveling at warp factor 5.

NX-Alpha, the first of the NX prototypes, is piloted by A. Robinson.
For over a year after the first successful flight of the NX prototype, the Vulcans are demanding additional simulations, until the admit that the engine would probably work.
The already delicate issue of first contact with the Borg is further complicated, keeping in mind that plenty of evidence was created in "Regeneration" that would need to vanish until the 24th century.

Filmtracks: Star Trek: Enterprise (Dennis McCarthy)
Despite those producers' continuous attempts to explain their reasons for the use of the pop song in a traditionally orchestral setting --a flight from tradition that underscores a larger irritation with score fans in general since the mid-1990's-- the hardcore fans of the series have rejected the song.
Despite a whole year of episodes long finished, the packaging of the album is still restrained to the extremely uninteresting early promo shots of the principle actors standing around in those blue jumpsuits.
The remix of the title song for the first track features spectacular surround sound, but all of the score and the TV-version of the song at the end suffer from a muted quality that is detrimental to the listening experience.

First seen in "First Contact" (2373), the new gray/fl combination was quickly adopted by the DS9 personnel in the same year.
The latter idea is supported by the fact that the long-range probe Friendship One in the Voyager episode of the same name sported the arrowhead as the symbol of the UESPA (United Earth Space Probe Agency) as early as in 2067.
At first, it was an empty pip, which would comply with the TNG rank system rather as a cadet than as an NCO.

The 90-year gap between First Contact and "Broken Bow" has always made me curious, so I welcome a show like "First Flight," which fleshes out the backstory a bit so we can get an idea of how the Enterprise came to be.
The episode is a reflective piece, as news arrives from Admiral Forrest that an old colleague, Captain A.G. Robinson, has been killed in a mountain-climbing accident.
About here is where the episode puts forward its most obvious and ancient cliches, where Archer confronts Robinson over his unnecessary risks and Robinson counters by calling John's father's engine an unworkably flawed design.

Concerning the intention behind the episode, it weighs even more that it may not have been adequate in the first place to transfer a 20th/21st century medical and social problem of humanity to a prominent alien civilization, involving a prominent character.

The events within the 90-year gap between First Contact and Enterprise are something that I have a great deal of curiosity about, but the writers don't seem to know anything about them, at least not on the basis of this ho-hum story, which is a missed opportunity.
A good episode that is actually about some of the issues that needed to be tackled in Enterprise's first season -- namely, the issue of human cargo-ship runners and the soon-to-change role of these people in a universe that will quickly begin shrinking with the advent of warp-5 starships.
Season one's best episode, which not only reminds us what Star Trek is all about, but manages to do so in an Enterprise-specific way that the other Trek series could not have done from the perspective of their premises.
