The death of a Church President dissolves the First Presidency, and leaves the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as the senior leader of the church.
The First Presidency is the highest leadership or priesthood quorum of the Community of Christ church.
One June 4, 2005 with the ordinations of Ken Robinson and David Schaal as presidents of the church and counselors to the president, the First Presidency was reorganized.

Dedicated 1994 The Community of Christ, previously known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or RLDS church is a branch of Mormon Restorationism, and is the second largest denomination of the Latter Day Saint movement.
Prior to 1996, church presidents designated their successors according to a concept of "lineal succession," and were descendents of the movement's founder, Joseph Smith, Jr.
Stephen M. Veazey has been presented to the Community of Christ as the one whom the leading Councils, Quorums, and individuals, of Community of Christ feel is called to be the next prophet-president.

 Proclaiming Peace in a Time of War
The following statement is issued by the First Presidency of the Community of Christ as guidance to church and community on the war with Iraq.
It invites members of the Community of Christ congregations to individually and collectively pray for peace in the world, and encourages faithful dialogue and exploration of the issues surrounding the war.
The Community of Christ, in solidarity with many religious communities around the world, has in recent weeks urged the leaders of the United States and its allies to use every possible means to avoid military action and to seek every peaceful avenue to resolve the conflict.

One of the lively and highly debated issues of business was the piece of legislation that called for the First Presidency of the Church to authorize and suggest an alternate Communion Prayer - the blessing we use for the emblems of Communion, bread and wine (juice).

Officers and a steering committee were chosen that night, with Bob Flanders chosen to serve as the first President of the Association and Paul Edwards the Vice President for Program, to plan the first annual meeting in Nauvoo, September, 1973.

The next Community of Christ World Conference is not scheduled until 2006, but church leaders said a conference might be called earlier because of the resignation.
McMurray was the first president of the church who is not a descendant of Joseph Smith Jr., according to The Examiner, a newspaper based in Missouri.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) -- The leader of the Community of Christ, a congregation with 250,000 members in 50 countries, has resigned and will leave the church's priesthood, citing health, family and undisclosed personal reasons.
The church, based in suburban Kansas City, was known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints until April 2001.
The resignation letter was addressed to the other two members of the church's First Presidency, Peter A. Judd and Kenneth N. Robinson.
