		Modern fisheries management is most often based on biological arguments where the idea is to protect the (additional info and facts about biological) biological resource in order to make a sustainable exploitation possible.
		Governmental resource protection-based fisheries management is a relatively new idea, first developed for the North European fisheries after the first (additional info and facts about Overfishing) Overfishing Conference held in London in 1936.
		In most countries the management rules today should be based on the internationally agreed, albeit non-binding, standard Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, agreed at an (The United Nations agency concerned with the international organization of food and agriculture) FAO session in 1995.

		The Institute for Fisheries Management and Coastal Community Development (IFM) undertakes research on socio-economic and institutional aspects of fisheries management and development in coastal communities, and provides advisory services to national and international public authorities, institutions and organisations in Denmark and world-wide.

		The recreational fishery operates under a recreational red snapper quota of 4.47 million pounds, and this is the time frame in which that quota is projected to be filled under a 4 fish/person bag limit and a 16" minimum size limit.
		In 2004, the deep-water commercial grouper fishery reached its quota and closed on July 15, 2004, and the shallow-water commercial grouper fishery closed on November 15, 2004.
