Fist of Legend is more than a remake of the classic Bruce Lee film Fist of Fury, it is also an homage to the great kung fu master.
Apart from noticing the obvious similarities and differences between Fist of Fury and Fist of Legend, what suddenly comes to mind when viewing this film is that this is Jet Li's greatest film (besides Once Upon a Time in China).
Overall, Fist of Legend is an excellent film, one that matches Bruce Lee's original in style and pace.

The interesting thing about this movie is the conflict between the Chinese and Japanese, this is not something that is seen often in kung fu movies.
The VCD version from Mei Ah is an excellent alternative to the "not so good" DVD version released by Dimension who has some minor edits to some scenes also the music is changed as well and the original Cantonese audio track is not available.
Fist of Legend is simply said a classic in the Kung Fu genre.

his is essentially a remake of the superb 1972 Bruce Lee classic 'Fist of Fury' with Jet Li taking on the famous role of Chen Zen.
He did a tremendous job, and many believe it to be his best work, and is ultimately a huge factor in his selection for both the 'Matrix' and 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'.
The climax of the film is also excellent, as we see Chen accompany Chin Siu Ho to a challenge match which becomes too much for him, and ultimately sees Chen battle with Billy Chow as a Japanese General, completely scrapping Bob Baker's original Russian character.

Yes, vengence is a typical, almost traditional element of kung fu movies, but FIST OF LEGEND also focuses on the romance between Chen Zhen and Mitsuko, such as the disapproval of Chen Zhen's fellow Chinese towards him romancing a Japanese.
When she arrives in Shanghai, she is immediately cast out as being an evil, almost less than human, person simply for her nationality.

Gordon Chan's script and co-direction are also surprisingly good; in the original Chinese Connection, Bruce Lee fought back against foreign invaders who were portrayed in a rabble-rousing (and, frankly, racist) fashion.
There are still bad guys in Fist of Legend, and, needless to say, they get their asses kicked.
