As the primary writer in the band, Les Emmerson was garnering much more attention for his songs than the others were for their musical abilities, and he was receiving more money than the others as a result of his publishing royalties.
Never fully involved in the day-to-day business of the band, the others were finding it difficult to justify the struggle, and nine years of constant touring had taken their toll.
Over two decades later, Five Man Electrical Band's songs are still a staple of Canadian Radio, and continuing airplay attests to their popularity.

Simply put, this disc (whose name is a pun on Five Man Electrical Band, a group who had one hit in the '70s...
Sure, plenty of bands had experimented with acoustical music at some point or another; in the early days of their career, the Grateful Dead used to do one acoustic set mixed with their electrical work.
Five Man Acoustical Jam is interesting today because it features Tesla at the height of their popularity, a point I question whether they ever were able to hit again.

The album was a big seller prompting the band's U.S. label to release "Half Past Midnight" along with a commitment to record new material in L.A. Taking a cue from their own 1968 2nd album, they soon changed their name to The Five Man Electrical Band in 1969 and commuted back and forth to Los Angeles recording sides for Capitol Records.

Five Man Electrical Band, one of the more creative Canadian groups of the early '70s, edged toward the American "big-time" without ever really receiving its due.
Springing from the accomplished harmonies of all five bandmembers and leader Les Emerson's socially-attuned penmanship, the band was equally at home firing off catchy pop hits ("Signs," "Absolutely Right") as it was with more ambitious, roots-rock-grounded album material ("Coming of Age," "Country Girl Suite").
