Arctic Monkeys are true children of the internet - nobodies who gave away their music online, they're now one of the fastest-selling acts ever.
But perhaps the Monkeys harbour an innocent hope that the music will do the meeting and greeting for them in the US of A. After all, leaving aside the spurned sweethearts, music industry puffing and hysterical sensationalism, it's all come down to the songs.
The album is set to be the sound of the summer and may well become one of those albums which signify a changing of the guard.

This is why bands like the Arctic Monkeys are allowed to release two late December EPs to whet Yankee appetites for their full length in February, while both the lesser likes of Hard-Fi and The Cribs were forced to settle for summer releases.
Superficially, the Arctic Monkeys vary little from their Franz/Chiefs counterparts that made waves in early ’04 and ’05 respectively.
What separates the Monkeys from the aforementioned acts, besides the above-average songwriting, is an uncharacteristically grungy tone to their guitars and the frothing at the mouth drumming of Matt Helders.

 NOW Magazine - Music in Toronto, NOVEMBER 10 - 16, 2005
Although the wired-up Sheffield teens haven't yet released an album, the Arctic Monkeys recently notched a chart milestone neither the Fab Four, Coldplay nor even Franz Ferdinand can claim: their debut single, I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor (Domino), rocketed straight to number one on the UK charts.
What makes the Monkeys' feat even more impressive is that their quick rise to the top occurred without the conventional "hookers 'n' blow" promotional strategy or having hordes of street team members buy up mass quantities of their single from chart-reporting shops.
Their Five Minutes With The Arctic Monkeys EP sold out its limited run in less time than it took to record it and now goes for $80 or more on eBay.

Perhaps then, they are as good as the hype says they are - after all this is a band that had released nothing more than a two track EP, Five Minutes With The Arctic Monkeys so they must be doing something right.
Now, however, they have released a full, 13 song, 41 minute LP and will be under much scrutiny by fans and critics alike.
Now clearly it would be impossible to live up to such hype, sell-out tours and positive reviews by fans and critics alike; taken alone, however, the album is very much a positive thing.

Regarded as many (in the nme influenced society we live in) as the best track of this millennium, however in this mix it seems like a weak track, one that may be skipped in favour of the wonderful ‘Dancing Shoes’.
The original perception of this song is that it is a skip able track, in the same vein as ‘Acrobat’ By Maximo Park, but one that if you pay enough attention to and give it a chance, will reward you.
The ironic thing is, the vampires seem to be the music fans, of which the majority seem to be Monkeys fans.

Now that Pete Doherty’s been revealed as some poetry-spouting posh kid with an over-romanticised view of London and class As, the next band being lined up to navigate the good ship Albion are Arctic Monkeys from Sheffield.
Reflecting provincial England, whose Saturday nights are marked by potent mixers, toxic kebabs and ruck-inflicted bruises, they have a nice line in caustic wit and guitar pop.
Loads of energy, plenty of promise and if they avoid the already building hype, they’ll be worth watching.

Then the hopes of everyone were dashed when the Monkeys were knocked off the top perch by Westlife.
Following an inter-album EP knowingly titled 'Who the Fuck are Arctic Monkeys' the band set off on a tour of North America without bassist Andy Nicholson who, complaining of fatigue, was replaced by Nick O'Malley.
