The station was completely re-built by the nationalised British Railways in the mid 1960s, when the West Coast Main Line was modernised and electrified.
New Street station was constructed as a joint station by the London and North Western Railway and the Midland Railway between 1846 and 1854 to replace several earlier unconnected rail termini, the most notable being Curzon Street.

Extra stations have been proposed for Mere Green (between Four Oaks and Butler's Lane), Raddlebarn Road (between Bournville and Selly Oak, to serve Selly Oak Hospital), and Wychall (between Northfield and King's Norton).
The Cross-City Line is a suburban railway line in the West Midlands region of England.
The long term aspiration is for dedicated tunnels through central Birmingham: this would either take the form of new bored tunnels (favoured by the SRA) or a re-opening of Birmingham Curzon Street Station to allow two of the existing four tunnels to be used for local trains only (formerly favoured by Central Trains).

FIVE WEEKS FROM QINGHAI TO HONG KONG WITH A WEEKEND IN SINGAPORE, SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2000.
I leave my pack at the bus station office, and find a bus outside bound for the railway station, but after waiting in it for 45 minutes it is still far from full.
There are many restaurants in the small market village that has grown up around the station, many with most of their tables under canvas awnings at the front.
At the bus station this morning, in my haste I made a stupid mistake, enquiring at the ticket office and pointing to the characters for Liuzhou - an entirely different name, to which the response was, of course, "Mei you!" - no service from Dazu to Liuzhou in faraway Guangxi province.

 Five Worthy Ways
Stations need to be numerous and trips personalized, that is, zero stops or perhaps one.
These Worthy Ways cohere in the vision of a large, prosperous economy that treads lightly and emits little or nothing.
My first two Ways to spend have been Worthy because they would deepen our understanding of sea and land and create the context for protecting other life while we feed ourselves.

This means that I regard a complaint about a particular station as adequately remedied by an acceptable overall rate of achievement of accessibility of stations, whether or not the particular station is first on the list of stations to be made accessible.
For the purposes of this complaint I regard achievement of accessibility of stations at, or close to, the rate contemplated by the draft Standards as an adequate remedy.
In the circumstances of this complaint, the fact that the station access is only by way of stairs also presents a significant barrier to access to other local services.

 Bilston West Station
The station opened under the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway in 1854 as Bilston Station ('West' added in 1950) and later came under GWR control (although the extent to which the OWWR was autonomous from the GWR is a moot point).
The bridge carrying the road over the railway still stands and this is the view from the bridge towards the station site which is several hundred yards ahead: unfortunately, factory units and a retail park obliterate its path.
I must qualify this view however, in as much as I'm not certain that this is the actual railway embankment remains - it maybe a later creation of the resculpting of the area but certainly the ground immediately to its right is directly in line with the station site.

July 2 — A railway station may be safely defined as a place where trains halt on the way to their destination, downloading many a passenger and picking many more or there may exist a better definition of the place.
Reliable sources say that the local railway station is an important one for the gang of baggage lifters on the trains.
But to said that a railway station is permanent resident of beggars and petty criminals would be highly out of place.

Tibet Information Network - Dramatic transformation of Lhasa planned; new railway station announced
The construction of the 1,118 km railway from Golmud in Qinghai to Lhasa in the TAR is an important part of the Beijing government's campaign to develop the western regions of China, including the TAR and Tibetan areas in Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan and Gansu provinces.
While the railway's approach to Lhasa has been changed since the maps were formulated, the location of the main terminus in Ne'u may be consistent with original design and land set aside for a terminal in Lhasa city remains undeveloped.
The Five Year Plan states that the short term goal is to expand the urban area to 70 square km by the end of 2005 and to increase the urban population from 230,000 to "over 300,000" (Beijing China Internet Information Centre, 4 June).

Traders in connivance with road transport operators and certain railways officials have been using goods trains as conduits due to loopholes in the system.
According to sources, transporters were allowed to take delivery on the basis of “self railway receipts” from “out booking agencies” operated by private persons in different parts of the city as per the law of the land.

Milton Railway Station Campaign - CHUMMS Multi-Modal Study
The Multi-Modal Study preferred plan (which included a guided busway, although the reopening the Cambridge railway line to St.Ives and beyond to Huntingdon was one of its four original strategies) was presented to the regional planning office in July 2001.
It will provide an opportunity for people who live, work, shop and travel in the corridor to have their say in the way that their current and future transport requirements are catered for, and to assist the consultants in producing a robust transport plan for the corridor.
It was seen simply as a way of building more roads, and those people were absolutely correct.

 ManorCon Directions
It is possible to take a train to either Five Ways Station or University Station, but neither of these is particularly close to the Halls.
From University station, you can walk along the canal towpath in the direction of the city centre, and leave the towpath at a bridge which is actually on the campus.
One advantage of this bus is that it runs from Northfield Railway Station directly to the campus — so you could catch a train from New St. to Northfield, then pick up the bus outside the station.
