The first spin(4) group rotates the remaining 4 dimensions inside the 5-brane, while the final spin(4) belongs to the R-symmetry of the fivebrane - it rotates 4 of its 5 transverse dimensions which are also transverse to the string, of course.
The correlation of the two spin(4) groups was also known to me and Ori when we wrote down the topological (skyrmionic, as Kenneth later called it even though the details are different from the usual skyrmions) terms giving you the string solution.
It's sort of entertaining how such a membrane, connecting two parallel fivebranes, can be described purely in terms of geometry of the fivebranes, and let me say a couple of sentences about it.

This fivebrane is usually called the "Neveu-Schwarz fivebrane" or "NS fivebrane".
It is worthwhile to note that the E8 x E8 Heterotic string has historically been considered to be the most promising string theory for describing the physics beyond the Standard Model.

In type IIB fivebrane background four zero-modes of dilatinos and no zero-modes of gravitinos are found.
These zero-modes indicate the four-fermion condensates which have been suggested in a calculation of the tension of the D-brane in fivebrane backgrounds.

Gauntlett, Jerome P. Lambert, Neil D. West, Peter C. The fivebrane worldvolume theory in eleven dimensions is known to contain BPS threebrane solitons which can also be interpreted as a fivebrane whose worldvolume is wrapped around a Riemann surface.
By considering configurations of intersecting fivebranes and hence intersecting threebrane solitons, we determine the Bogomol'nyi equations for more general BPS configurations.
We obtain differential equations, generalising Cauchy-Riemann equations, which imply that the worldvolume of the fivebrane is wrapped around a calibrated geometry.

Abstract: Non-perturbative instanton corrections to the moduli space geometry of type IIA string theory compactified on a Calabi-Yau space are derived and found to contain order e \Gamma1=g s contributions, where g s is the string coupling.
The computation reduces to a weighted sum of supersymmetric extremal maps of strings, membranes and fivebranes into the Calabi-Yau space, all three of which enter on equal footing.

An SL(6,Z) invariant partition function is computed for the chiral two-form of the M theory fivebrane compactified on the six-torus.
From a manifestly SL(5,Z) invariant formalism it is shown that the partition function has an additional SL(2,Z) symmetry.
Thus, whether or not a fully covariant Lagrangian is available, the fivebrane on the six-torus has a consistent quantum theory.

After simultaneous compactification of spacetime and worldvolume on K3, the D = 10 heterotic fivebrane with gauge group SO(32) behaves like a D = 6 heterotic string with gauge group SO(28) _ SU(2), but with Kac-Moody levels different from those of the fundamental string.
Since D = 6 strings are better understood than D = 10 fivebranes, this provides a more reliable laboratory in which to test the conjecture.
Finally we speculate on the relevance of string/string duality to the vacuum degeneracy problem.

 A brief description of my work in physics
Such duality symmetries in string theory were the next topic of my research.
As a first project, a dimensional reduction of the dual version of the heterotic string effective action (possibly related to a fivebrane effective action) to four dimensions was performed, and the global symmetries of the resulting theory associated to T and S-dualities were compared with those of the usual four-dimensional heterotic string effective action [7,9].
This analysis made clear why string S-duality and fivebrane T-duality are not on the same footing when all vector fields of the ten-dimensional theories are taken into account.
