The Flag of Afghanistan was adopted by the transitional government of Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan in 2002-2004.This flag is similar to the one flown in Afghanistan during the monarchy between 1930 and 1973.
Flag flown under the rule of Habibullah Kalakani or Habibullah Khan, formerly known as Bacha-i-Saqao.
Same as the previous flag, except that in the national seal, the cogwheel is moved from the top to the bottom, the red star and the book are removed, and the green field curved to resemble the horizon.

On 27 January 2002 a new flag was adopted for the 'Transitional Authority' which has not yet been superseded and follows basically the same design of the 1930-1973 flag with some minor changes (1:2 proportions, coat-of-arms fully contained in red stripe, shahada and takbir on the top etc.).
I seem to recall an early edition of The Flag Bulletin had an article on Afghan grave flags, where monochrome flags in the four Arab/Muslim/Afghan colours, green, white, fl and red, were flown on graves, with a significance to each colour.
