To the best of my information the flag was last confirmed by the 'Emblems of Alberta Act' (Chapter E8 Revised Statutes of Alberta) of 1980.
The crest, supporters and motto were added to the arms, but not to the flag, on the 75th anniversary of the creation of the province on 30th July 1980.
Alberta will be issuing a special flag to commemorate its centenary year.

During a lunch break; and being from Alberta; I was surprised at the level of curiosity and questioning in regards to Alberta's separatist movements, the recent polls, news reports etc.
I imagine that Alberta has many cheerleaders within B.C. and Saskatchewan, who will be eager to approach Alberta after we separate in order to initiate discussions to explore the possibility of joining us outside of confederation.
For SE Alberta (my old stomping grounds), I propose a green line in place of the blue, and extending the yellow over the white all the way to the bottom, with the wheat stalks running all the way along the bottom.

Western blue flag was first discovered in Alberta in 1964 from two locations in the southwestern corner of the province.
