The national flag of Botswana was adopted on September 30, 1966.
The flag is light blue with a fl horizontal band across the centre, with a white border.
The blue colour stands for water, specifically rain, and comes from the motto on the Botswana coat of arms, which states Pula, the Tswana word for "Let there be rain".

I was recently in Botswana and noticed a flag painted on a Botswana Air Defence Force helicopter at the Maun airport.

The High Commissioner's flag (1935 design) may have been used on land after 1942; before that it should have been used only when the High Commissioner was embarked in a vessel.

On further inquiry I learned that there is a law which requires government permission to be granted before the flag of Botswana can be flown.
That has been a problem with standardisation and so flags with various shades of blue (from different manufacturers) are seen and the government wants to change this.
