The flag of Český Krumlov, adopted in 2001.
Krumlov Castle is unusually large and fine for a town of Krumlov's size; within the Czech Republic it is second only to the castle complex of Prague.
Ten kilometers from Český Krumlov is one of Bohemia's oldest monasteries called Zlatá Koruna (The Golden Crown), and about 30km from Krumlov is the Hluboká Castle, established in the 12th century and later remodelled according to the English Windsor Castle.

We arrived in Czesky Budjovice at about 10pm to get a bus to Cesky Krumlov and waited by the stop in the dark, deserted bus station, wondering just how much the darkness and the desertedness was indicative of.
We arrived at Cesky Krumlov late at night and got a taxi to "Skippy's" hostel, tired, went straight to bed.
On our second morning in Cesky Krumlov we went to the supermarket to get some food and little gifts for friends and family and then met Grant at the internet cafe / rafting centre in the town, where, along with a Canadian called Sandra we hired a raft to go along the river.

So all weekend, we drank loads of the local Eggenberg beer, ate loads of spit-roasted pig and sausages, rye bread, and pickles, and watched jousting tournaments, and processions through the streets, and culminating, on Saturday night, in some very loud fireworks over the very beautiful castle...
Cesky Krumlov is VERY picturesque, and extremely photogenic...its safe to say that its almost impossible to take bad pictures in a place like this...
As for Cesky Krumlov, no I don't think it's terribly typical of Czech towns as it holds World Heritage status..this is a rare honour only given to places that are deemed to be unique, and this little gem is unique because it is almost totally dating from one period - Medieval times.

We found that the fastest route from Vienna was train to Ceske Budejovice (there were only a couple of fast choices) and then a bus to Cesky Krumlov.
The bus station is also much closer to the center of Krumlov than the train station.
You'll doubtless appreciate that, prior to 1989, travel from Cesky Krumlov to Vienna was, shall we say, not encouraged.
