  Flag of the Czech Republic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The flag of the Czech Republic is the same as the flag of the former Czechoslovakia.
The flag contains red and white colors derived from the ancient Czech coat of arms (silver lion on the red field); because the flag was almost identical with Polish and had the same colors as Austrian flag, a blue wedge was added (1920).

One of the flags furthest to the rear shows a fl eagle's wing-part of a banner of the arms of Silesia which depict an eagle (Silesia formed the Czech lands along with Bohemia and Moravia.) In front of it is a banner of the Moravian arms-a red and white chequered eagle on a blue field.
The so-called "©tefánik Flag" became the official banner or flag of the Czechoslovak National Council, and was primarily used as the Czechoslovak War Flag after the General inspected the Legion units in Siberia at the end of 1918.

 Slovakia
The first Slovak flag was white-red bicolore and was waved on 23rd April 1848 in Brezová during a theatre performance.
The present-day state flag of the Slovak Republic is described in article 9, paragraph 2 of the Slovak Constitution, which was enacted on 1st September 1992.
Its width is equal to the one hundredth of the flag's length.

 Czechoslovakia 1920
On 29 february 1920 a blue triangle on the hoist was added on previously used white over red flag, reaching only to one third of the flag.
On 30 march 1920 (so one month and one day later!) the triangle was extended to the centre of the flag (this being virtually the same flag as current flag of Czech Republic).
The reasons I think for adding the blue was to make it different from the Polish flag wich was (re-)adopted about the same time, and to represent Slovakia (which used white/blue/red tricolour since 1848).

The flag was raised on February 23, 1945 on Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima.

Flag of Bohemia-Moravia Protectorate was created in autumn 1939 by Prince Karel Schwarzenberg (based on "Staatsfarben" of Czechoslovakia).
The Bohemian CoA is and was a silver lion on red, so the heraldically correct order is white over red (and this flag has actually been used in Bohemia during 19th century to 1918 when it has become a first national flag of Czechoslovakia).
I think this flag was probably used for civil purposes and for use outside of Bohemia at that time.

Michael Strank, participant in the famous flag raising on Iwo Jima, was born at Conemaugh, Pennsylvania, on 10 November 1919, the son of Vasil and Martha Strank, natives of Czechoslovakia (his father was also known as Charles Strank).
He was the oldest of the six American soldiers who raised the American flag over Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima, in the midst of the bloody fighting there.

This flag was designed by Preissig for Milan Rastislav Štefanik, the Slovak leader in the National Council which the Allies had recognized as the Czechoslovak government in exile.
It is not known, why this flag was not adopted as the national flag when the National Commitee declared the independence of Czechoslovakia on October 28, 1918 in Prague.
It seems, that there is a red flag in the background with a cup, maybe the cup which is a symbol for the Bohemian Hussittes (Czech: husitský kalich), the first Czech national movement in the Middle Age.
