Flamenco rock, originated by Tio himself, is a fusion of elements including rock, hip-hop, and traditional Latin rhythms that coexist in the same place, in one sound.
Flamenco rock is about recapturing the origins of Latin music and innovating a new discipline that defies all stigmas of style transformation.
With flamenco rock Tio has incorporated a bass player, a second guitarist, a drummer and a turntablist, so the innovative sounds of his band harbor a style not found anywhere else in the world.

 Flamenco Fusion and Flamenco Rock
In the mid-eighteen hundreds, Flamenco was elevated to public performances in ’cafe cantantes’, first opening in Seville in 1842, and this began a period lasting from roughly 1850-1910, called the “Golden Age of Flamenco”, in which modern flamenco would evolve through the intermixing of gypsy performers and Spaniards.
Flamenco blends influences the earliest of which came from Hindu dances, the threnodies of Greek mourners and the mimes of Imperial Rome.
Jorge Pardo is one of the most dumbfounded and consequent realities of the flamenco fusion, and in addition to his habitual collaboration in the sextet of Paco de Lucía he has several discs in the market, and a multitude of collaborations with big flamenco artists of the present time.

flamenco from andalusia - an introduction
Whilst some purists disapprove of the fashionable attempts to blend flamenco with jazz, blues, rock and pop music, it is no wonder that so many young people embrace it wholeheartedly.
Flamenco is an individualistic, yet structured folk art from Andalucía, which is often improvised and spontaneous.
Perhaps the best way to become familiar with the complexities of flamenco singing and sentiment, is by going to a "tablao" (flamenco show), a flamenco club (peña) or to one of the countless festivals that are organised every summer.

As singer and lyricist, he says that although they incorporate rock, jazz, tango, and other rhythms into their music, theirs is not flamenco fusion but a contemporary form of pure flamenco.
The Bienal, a "flamenco marathon," according to director Manuel Herrera, is sponsored by the Andalusian government and conceived as a showcase for various forms of flamenco in theaters, bars, and the patios of city institutions, formerly grand homes.
In every era flamenco has always been affected by the sociopolitical situation, as our music is. Before, flamenco was marginalized by high society, by the church, by the government, because it comes from the underground -- bad living, drink, prostitution, Gypsies, people who spent the night partying, wrapped in alcohol and sex.

Flamenco seems to overcome the despair and hopelessness of the life of a gypsy.
In the 1950's, a revival of Flamenco was supported by poets, writers and numerous followers, resulting in the resurgence of the style and new appreciation.

Flamenco-world.com / Interview with Chano Domínguez
Self-taught musician, street performer, accompanist to church choirs, progressive rock artist… The career path of this ubiquitous figure from Cadiz is like a rainbow of rich experiences, discoveries in sound and wild incursions into contemporary jazz.
A language wrapped in jazz, with a true jondo flamenco center, and with an improvisational approach, a language with subtle Sephardic, Arabian and Caribbean reminiscences.
Strikingly modest in his words - you might even go so far as to say there was a certain innocent shyness about him - he plays down his role among his musical colleagues in the creation of a new form of flamenco-jazz, and denies his vertebral role in a new piano language.

iBreatheMusic Forums - rock vs flamenco technique
Now, he says flamenco is much harder to play then rock (which may be true, i don't know) but he also says the guitarist Paco De Lucia has a technique that can't be compared to ANY rock guitarist, basically he says rock guitarists sucks compared to Paco De Lucia (in technique).
No doubt both Rock and Flamenco technique requires a lot of work, but it is simply foolish to compare the two and say one is harder than the other.
A rock Guitarist you may want to listen to is Tracy G. He played with Dio, on the outstanding "Strange Highways" album, as well as recorded 8 or 10 solo albums, including a "Spanish Music " album, called "Cat Gut".

PATA NEGRA : MusicWeb Encyclopaedia of Popular Music
Flamenco blues-rock group from Seville, formed around brothers Rafael and Raimundo Amador and mysteriously named after a local sausage.
Best album was Blues de la Frontera '88, notable for a heavy dose of the American South as well as two especially catchy tributes to the Spanish south: 'Camer¢n', named for the doomed flamenco god Camer¢n de la Isla, and 'Yo me quedo en Sevilla', which also opens the fusion collection The Young Flamencos '90.
Drug- related differences between the brothers led to their break-up '91; in March '94 they re-formed for one successful night minus Raimundo to play at the Madrid club Aqualung, but Rafael's pre- concert confession that 'everything I like is illegal, immoral and fattening' did not bode well.

People's Weekly World Newspaper Online - Reviews: New CDs highlight lush Latin grooves
Its 11 songs — largely consisting of salsa and Cuban rhythms — incorporate a range of musical influences, from funk to hip hop and electronica to flamenco, rock and reggae.
A fusion of Andalucian flamenco, AfroCuban and salsa rhythms, rumba flamenco is lighter and poppier, as opposed to traditional flamenco with its dramatic and heavy interpretation of the human experience.
The Barcelona-based experimental flamenco group Ojos de Brujos’ rousing “Vacileo” and subdued, bluesy “Tesero” are alluring subtle rumbas that incorporate other instruments, such as electric base and bongos, traditionally not used in flamenco.

Interview with El Barrio, guitarist, singer and songwriter
I sing flamenco, but what I do is influenced by rock andaluz with a hint of flamenco.
The flamenco that's being made these days is bullshit because nobody has anything to say, they just look for a summery rhythm and a catchy chorus.
And that's the one way to update flamenco, for people to keep inventing, because if a cantaor just puts a little meaning and some modern voices into it, maybe audiences will be into it...

 Resources for studying flamenco
The ideal in flamenco is called duende (demon, or elf) which refers to a state of emotional involvement, of group communication at a deeper level, and a feeling of sympathy, between the musicians, dancers, and listeners.
Flamenco is challenging to learn, but with even a rudimentary study of flamenco, you will notice a rapid improvement in your guitar skills.
For example, a flamenco singer mentioned in Segovia's autobiography once said that he was trying to make his audience "suffer" (that is, to feel the feelings of a persecuted gypsy).

 Untitled
Blending heavy rock, Flamenco and Italian Classical music with South American Rhythms, the 23-year old guitarist catapulted onto the guitar scene.
In the early '70s rock spectrum, another strange musical mutation was gathering force and would soon make a tremendous impact on rock guitar style and technique: the sound of jazz-rock.
The real pioneer of early jazz-rock though was jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, who began using static rock rhythms in his recordings and allowing his musicians to stretch out with rock inflected solos.

 Oscar Lopez
The Tin Angel Web site bills Oscar Lopez as "flamenco rock." Hmmm.
Yes, he works in flamenco strumming when inspired, but he is also as likely to set a composition like "Cerca de Ti" from his latest recording, Seduction (Narada), in a vaguely ranchera style that suggests south Texas conjunto.
To give himself a break from all that electric guitar work, Lopez was drawn to the nylon string guitar and listening to lots of the music he'd left behind in South America.
