Thus the creativity and intelligence of Flaming Pie is doubly welcome and is certainly one of the best albums he has done since leaving the Beatles.
For those wondering what resemblance Flaming Pie bears to his past work, especially the Beatles stuff, think of it as a natural evolution.
Flaming Pie shows that not only has he not lost his musical ability, but it seems to be growing.

Flaming Pie - Paul McCartney - Similar Albums   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
According to Paul McCartney, working on the Beatles Anthology project inspired him to record an album that was stripped-back, immediate, and fun, one less studied and produced than most of his recent work.
A largely acoustic collection of simple songs, Flaming Pie is direct and unassuming, and at its best, it recalls the homely charm of McCartney and Ram.
Even with the filler, which should be expected on any McCartney album, Flaming Pie is one of his most successful latter-day efforts, mainly because McCartney is at his best when he doesn't try so hard and lets his effortless melodic gifts rise to the surface.

 Track Notes: Flaming Pie --- 1997 - ...
The "pie" lyric that had arrived unto Paul on horseback fitted perfectly with some funky riffs he and Jeff Lynne had evolved days earlier while waiting to overdub guitars onto 'Souvenir'.
With lyric and music suddenly fashioned, 'Flaming Pie' was recorded quickly - for, entirely appropriately, Paul suggested that the song be taped with the speed that the Beatles often worked, cutting three songs in a day.
Setting themselves a four hour deadline, the track came together with relative ease, Paul singing live to his own piano accompaniment with Jeff on guitar before adding drums and bass, and then, guitars and harmony vocals.
